Special Thanks to my Dad, who helped me a lot with this project! With out him i would be probably only half done with remodel.
This is 1986 Toyota Rogue that i picked up thinking that i will have to just redo the roof and cab over, but after i pulled siding off i decided that its will be better to redo all walls as there was rot in some places. The roof was aluminum, but i decided to replace it with rubber roof. The kit that i bought on ebay (Rubber Roof Repair KIT DICOR 8'6" X 26' Rv Roof, Duraself Self Level And Glue) was around $335. for the front i have used fiber glass (7.5 WIDE- Arctic White RV Fiberglass/Filon Siding-Sold By The Foot) its was about $116. I have copied all the walls, with 1 x 2, but roof i made with 2x2 instead of 1x2 and made slight slope. I am still working on it, will make new video once i am improve it more or done with it. Unfortunately i have only one video of remodel, only pictures, i will try to make more videos now.

Is that fiberglass siding? My truck camper has that exact siding on it. What is the best way to remove the siding without cracking it?

Sergei - great job!! I just bought this exact same model, same layout - I would love to see photos of what you did with the interior. Thankfully, I haven't noticed any rot, so looks like I won't have to do the exterior, but I definitely want to update the inside. If you haven't already, join the Toyota TMC facebook group. We will love to have you!!

can I ask how much it cost for the full repair? I have a Toyota dolphin that I bought and found that it has excessive water damage. I thought I was just in the roof, well was I ever wrong.

When i bought this one i was thinking same think that its only roof. I got really caried away with this one and i think i spend around $2,700 - $3000, but the cost would have been way less if i would reuse and repair some of the old stuff. For materials like plywood and 1x2"s, screews, nail glue (basically the whole box with out siding and rubber roof) I spend around $500, and then cost started adding up, new mattress, reupholster sofa, new air conditioner, vents, rubber roof, dicor sealant ($10 per tube), I have learned that the best is to buy from ebay, this way you save a lot of money. Its not to bad if you will just rebuild box, and if you will do it your self you should be cost wise under $1000. I have bought another one with less damage and switch to that one, that's why still don't have part two for this one, but on that other one I have rebuild over cab sleeper and roof, completely rebuild back wall with new fiberglass, brand new air conditioner and I am around $1500 in it. Labor wise its takes sometime, but its worse it, we put over 4000 miles on our since October 2018 and its gets around 17 mpg. Have fun with your project and God Bless.

I bought a 86 clipper Toyota rv late summer of 2017 and when I gutted the inside including all the appliances I found a large rotten spot under the old holding fresh tank but was a easy repair. The frame on the clipper is all aluminum and that was a major plus. The original roof metal is as thin as a soda can. I went the cheap route on interior rebuilding so I could sink money into 900 watt solar , 400 ah agm batteries, and 12 volt systems even a 12 volt element in a fresh tank for showering. For heat I went w a alcohol burner that can put out up to 5000 btu of heat. Air conditioning is the last hurdle and there's a 1400 btu dog house air conditioner that draws much less power but costs more up front I'm considering. I've had several toyotas over the years and they can't be beat for resale, longevity, economy,dependability. Like the way the running boards look on your cab, gonna see if Craigslist has some used ones now. Nice job.

Yes, i have reused siding, but for the front i ordered fiberglass from ebay, as i had aluminum roof and its was covering front too. Kinda regret that i didnt order for the whole body. Good luck with your project.

Brilliant strip down of a Toyota RV! Most people seem to stick new wood to the inside and hope it will work out! I have a 86 Toyota Dolphin which needs a rebuild, thinking of doing it in metal partion framing rather than original timber. How easy was it to copy the sides???
@sergiez449
@sergiez449 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I actually tried to work from inside and patch what I was able to, but then decided that it would be better and easier to remove wall at the time and copy it. I was not to bad, remove one wall at the time and copy it on the new plywood and go from there, wasn't hard but time consuming for sure. It for sure will be stronger with the metal frame, but I was surprised how strong that wall was after you add plywood on both sides. Good luck with your project.

Hello Sergie... Im about to purchase one of these, and I love the way you did the walls. i may be able to get it for 3k!! the engine runs well and most everything works , but its filthy and I have to do the walls to get rid of rot from water leakage. I love the fact that it has a dry bath.. What do you think ? Is it worth it?
@sergiez449
@sergiez449 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marzan Worldwide, I paid for mine 1,500 because I knew that I would have to redo roof, turned out that I needed to do walls as well. If you will do everything by your self its wont cost you much materials wise, but its will take some time to do it. I really like mine as I can park in regular parking space. Cant really tell you if its worth buying it or not, you need to do your own research how much it will cost you and how long it will take you and then decide if its worth buying it. Can tell you for sure that I am glad that I did mine.

That is an awful lot of work. and it looks as though it came out well. Congrats. Now to play yt crtic..... I think it would have been far less work had you simply took it right down to the floor and started over. I would have used a different contruction method. Fiberglass over rigid foam. Very easy, very light and strong. And I would have humped the roof a bit to keep water from pooling, which is part of what kills these to begin with. But, you didn't. And it appears to have come out well, but I really do wish you had finished it my simply coating the exterior plywood with a layer of fiberglass and a few coats of epoxy resin. Then, you'd have a very troublefree exterior, unlikely to suffer the same fate as the original. One other question. Where are you? Gotta be out west in the desert somewhere. No one could ever do this outside in the east.
