Very true :) A lot of the vids are of people showing off their vans or greeting & chatting to whoever is around (my idea of misery), the solitary life looks peaceful, yeah a bit boring but changing scenery is super easy to do, plus just being able to roll out of bed head into a store, cook up a breakfast and be on the road within an hour!

Yes!! I want to see the real deal & behind the scenes, the full use of all functions, maybe some more thoughts if it is too cold or too hot, I'm dreading winter times. I think a portabla toilet would be good to have though it doesn't take much space, I'd hate to have a brown accident because I didn't get in time to find a toilet. Also there are portable shower with pumps, one could just pop up a diy shower curtain hang the shower handle & stand outside close to a place where it's ok soap water comes into the sewage , or drying holes. One could also stand in a bukett outdoors & let the used dirty water (gray water) be collected. There are shower cabin one can build or buy as well I would opt for a toilet & shower. Unless one is very disciplined or out of necessity just buys a gym card to use their shower I think it will feel like one is always travelling And i know after a while one wants "normalcy" , but it all depends. I think the bedplace is the most important, because all one wants is to come home & lay in bed to rest or take a hot shower It all depends on what kind of person one is Seeing as it is so e pensive to just exist. I feel out of necessity & also freedom i would like the tiny home or camper/van life Most of my time & life is spent at work, the rest is just to lay in bed/sofa to recover after a work week & doing nothing with my life but watching movies to soothe myself from the slave life one lives, so I might as well just go for the vanlife I'm thinking & save on a lot of bucks & live minimalistically . Can use the money for investments that will make for an even more self provoding future, self employment, do one doesn't have to be dependent on the system, + the freedom to work whenever & wherever you want And to me i think the best thing would be no more noise from my neighbours

I lived in an RV on and off for years. 1) You'd better be handy. I enjoyed the challenge but sometimes I just wanted to take a long hot shower without something breaking. Plumbing and gasfitting being the typical issues. PS. I retrofitted a tankless water heater in so hot showers lasted more than 2 min. 2) The fresh air is nice but the cold, rainy days are hell. Winter was running 4x 1500W heaters 24/7 just to keep the water lines from freezing, let alone warm. Propane furnace rarely helped. I learned to wear socks and sweaters to bed. My dogs also helped keep me warm in -40C. 3) It's a bit lonely. A couple of friends came to visit but for the most part no one wanted to hang out. It's cramped and there's a bit of a stigma - like being homeless almost. It's fine if you're travelling in one but long term living people start treating you a bit differently. 4) Cost. There are ways you can cut down on your bills, like I eventually moved up to bulk propane rather than filling at gas stations. Power used to be cheap where I live but no longer is. Water is fine but you don't want to drink the stuff from the tap/tank and as mentioned is a struggle in winter. If you're moving, RVs don't travel light. You're going to pay high fuel expenses. 5) A bit of boredom. It was great going into the mountains - no lot fees, but no power and water. Move around and visit some places but after a while you miss having that stationary home. No furniture is comfortable - I upgraded to a home mattress and ikea couch but they were still not great. Anything better is too heavy or too big. This seems pretty negative - girlfriend and I are going to be doing some longer term RVing once our current contracts are up; go for a couple of months through Canada and the US. She hasn't done it before so we'll see what her opinions are.

@MichaelBrown-ti1un
@MichaelBrown-ti1un Жыл бұрын
@@Platinum9951I'm guessing in addition to KZbin money and possibly super chats, if they go live, all these van lifers have every gig app downloaded. Without having to pay rent or mortgage, you can easily keep monthly expenses very low. Working mobile side gigs a few days per week can likely cover expenses, especially if you're able to cook your own meals daily.😊
@Platinum9951
@Platinum9951 Жыл бұрын
@@MichaelBrown-ti1un Yeah that's what you would think but the vans are not cheap. A sprinter van costs $50,000-$100,000 ... then you got to remodel the thing which could cost another $30,000-50,000. Then of course it's a van so gas ain't gonna be cheap. I don't think you could finance this $100k-$150k investment on gig work. You could buy used but it's still expensive and if it breaks down so long to the remodeling investment.

As a Chinese, I’m so glad to see you enjoyed the buns. But instead of throwing them in the boiling water like that, u can put them in a dry bowl, then put the bowl in boiling water to avoid water directly reaching the buns, using a lid to cover the pot so u can steam them and then eat. If u use the correct method, it will taste wayyy better since its name is “steamed buns frozen version”. Directly putting buns in water is like putting croissants in water… So I’m here to give u this little suggestion. Ur videos r good.

I love this style of day in the life videos: relaxing, no narration, no loud music. For this being 50% of your days though I feel like you could easily improve things with a change of scenery and activities other than gym, gaming, scrolling. Even if it's just a nicer view to park at or a quiet spot slightly out of town where you can chill outside the van. I don't mean this in a judging way, I love being alone for days on end too and your routine looks a lot like my "meh" days too, but that solitude becomes depressing fast if it's spent staring at screens all day. Plus it never really feels like solitude because you're too socially connected online / not alone with your thoughts.

Great idea showing this. Im a social anti social person. If thats a thing. I prefer to be alone and do things on my own and usually try to stick to it. But if I am in a social situation, I can shine. Alone time is a good thing. But it can get a little dicey on the mind at times imo. Every now and again I realize that I need to socialize a little more. Im thankful for that realization because I'd see things getting a little cloudy if I wasn't able to. And people may not realize the implications that may come from being alone for so long isolated in a van on the road far from home base.

The primary drawbacks for me of vanlife is the inconvenience of leaving the vehicle to shower and dookie; otherwise, it's akin to solo apartment living with a bit less space.
@cheetah219
@cheetah219 5 ай бұрын
Yep exactly my thought. You trade in showers and a toilet for a life on wheels to think to yourself "what's my next destination". The way this life is structured also allows pretty easy gig economy side quests living simply where the primary expenses are going to be maintenance, fuel, food and water...he does a fantastic job. And then social media for longer term growth, it makes complete sense honestly and it seems like a great way to reset one's life and think/explore what direction to take....and sometimes a random turn can lead something great

Some people who have vans have full bathrooms inside, toilet and shower. I mean, with van life I couldn't imagine leaving the van at night at say, 3 am to use the toilet (too dangerous). Then again, I don't live in a van, but if I did, I would have to have a full bathroom, to use the toilet at least at night or when I feel unwell and shower in the van sometimes if I feel like it. I would obviously use gym showers/public toilets during the day, whenever possible too.

did the RV life for 3 years and there’s 100% the positives and 110% negatives. As an extrovert finding a campground with a community that are full timers is amazing because they typically do community weekly events. Otherwise you’re alone, which I can only take for so long. The lugging your poop and pee if for some reason the RV can’t make it to the sewage hookup. The need to shower in public spaces all the time. No wifi in some places. I do miss the adventure and being able to get up and go. I miss the people I would meet and community that can be built through it. Living with other people can either be a downfall or upside. Having a pet is amazing when doing this type of life style. Same with outdoor adventures, just parking somewhere and being able to stay. There’s a lot of pros and cons, just ask yourself if you can really stand it all

If I were to start VanLife, I'd probably also try and schedule calling various family and friends just to check up as I travel, but that's cuz I 1) need to talk to someone, and 2) wouldn't wanna get too caught up in my own solitude (as, respectfully, it seems easy to do so). Honestly this seems pretty relaxing. I can see myself enjoying this for a month or two. Just getting away from everything, living fairly simple, and having most of the essentials wherever I go. I would make a few adjustments like make space for my PC and Switch. I'd bring my cables to hook up my phone to the monitor to watch Netflix while I eat. But I would eventually want the open space of a home again, and I couldn't do this and not work. Even without many living expenses, food, gas, propane tanks and a few other essentials along with phone and streaming service bills would eventually catch up with me. Not to mention, a van like this isn't cheap either.

I was always skeptical about people who take the vanlife and it always seemed like the way to go. This changes my view on it and allows me to consider my options from an unbias standpoint. Absolutely amazing video. Thank you so much for making this.

How did you feel making this? I am sure I am not the only one that will say that they appreciate you taking the time to make this and to also show people what it is like to live on the road. Looks perfect actually. Def not a loner, but def don't have to be surrounded by people to make my time count on Earth. Takes a strong person to do what you do man. Salute!

Ryan, why not take the scenic route down 98 along the gulf? Love seeing the realities of van life, many are afraid to show the mundane stuff but this accurate representation is great! good work as always, many of us are living vicariously through your journey so thanks for taking the time to document it!

Well, this was different and quite odd than what I'm used to seeing on your videos. No talking, no narration or any voice. And I loved every minute of it. Nice to just see Ryan doing his daily life. Thing is, I never get tired of watching you do what you do. It's always your personality, attitude, how you see things and your positive attitude. And I like how you talk too. Even though you don't have someone to keep you company daily. I'd love to spend a day with you but it's not possible because you on the road and I'm up here in Canada. Anyways, keep truckin' and good luck on your travels up to Alaska. Hope you discover a lot of new things and enjoy that part of the country. Will be looking forward to those chapters. Can't wait. 🤗 ☺️

Thank you for posting this. I think in today's world it's too common to compare your life to someone else's, and when you live an average life, seeing only the positive side of other's experiences can seem like you're doing something wrong. Seeing something as relatable as this video really makes me feel like I am not alone in what I may consider something as a "mundane day." I really like the idea of being independent and living simply, so I like the light you shine on vanlife. I think it is a cool concept, and this video made me feel like it's something I would consider giving a shot. The only concern I have about it is the safety. Also, is there any way to purchase a plot of land and stay within the van for a more permanent setup? Great video, keep up the good work.

That's where I am. About to get a divorce, 2 degrees, full time job. I can rent an apartment which is throwing $1,500 a month out the window. Considering vanning it for 5-7 years, socking the money away and then retiring somewhere cheap and buying a small house.

Not always the answer. I work full time, and I have been a home owner. I have no great desire to own a piece of land with a house on it any more though, and rent is burning money. I've been looking at van life to simplify things and in my life, not just for financial ease.

lol. A lot of overhead when you don't have water/toilet/electricity/gas hookup on a permanent basis. Everything is a hassle including meal prep where you can only store a small amount of food at a time.

I don't get how seeing someone have complete freedom to do anything with their time is even remotely depressing. I feel an overwhelming sense of depression for those who spend 40 hours a week just to stay afloat, get zero time with their children and spouse, and typically die with a lot of regrets. I'll happily take having unlimited freedoms and being able to travel the world to enjoy the finer things in life over that 😂

I got a Sprinter van few months ago and converted it. I’ve been on the road a for a few weeks at a time now and I can say it is awesome. I have my dog with me and it isn’t lonely at all and I often play MMOs with my friends/family while video chatting from the middle of nowhere. Surprisingly I get good internet though my iPhone tether most places enough to play an MMO!

that was actually the best vanlife video i have seen, the raw uncut - true to life content this platform needs! i feel for you being alone bro, but this is content people needed to see, so many people are sucked into this fake reality of jobs or life styles but dont see whats behind closed doors! i do alot of product photography and reviews but people only see me getting cool shit sent not the countless hours of me emailing back and forth for weeks and taking over 4 hours to set up a shoot for only 4 photos! so i appriciate this video!
