My father drove this car until he died, first he had a car accident with the car, he didnt dump it . I watched him buy over 8 cars that he later sold yet he refused to sell this car.i so hated the car because it was out of fashion in the year 2000 and i hated when he comes to pick me up from school with this car, he later sold the car when we became so poor and he was so sick. It was the last car he drove and the longest that stayed with him now he is dead and i think of him often when i remember this car. I pray when i get money i will buy this car to honour him..i love him and i pray his soul rest in peace

I bought a new 4WD Tercel wagon in 1984 in standard trim and later bought a used SR5 wagon when my original Tercel rusted out from under me. (I lived in northeast snow/salt country.) The SR5 finally met its demise the same rusty way in upstate NY. Both cars had 165,000+ miles on them and still ran fine when parked for good. The worst mechanical problem I had was throwing a timing belt on one at about 120,000 miles while driving. But because it was a non-interference engine, no real damage done. I just had it towed home, replaced the belt, which was pretty easy, and drove it for another 50,000 miles or so, until the rust got it. The 62 hp engine had less horsepower than my Suzuki GS650 motorcycle, but no matter. Gutless yes, but due to the perfectly chosen ratios of the 5 speed (technically 6, but really only 5 on the road) manual gearbox it could cruise comfortably at 75 mph (on a flat highway), and was great around town too. It also got tremendous gas mileage for the time - 35-36mpg in warm weather and about 5 mpg less in the winter. I absolutely loved mine. To this day still my favorite car(s).

I got a 97 Tercel and not even kidding for as long as I’ve had it it’s only needed a new fuel pump. The inside is still amazing. Car is mint and is such a fun car.

I used to drive this car when I was in the US as an international student during 2000-2002. Actually it was my mom's car, but she let me drive it. After that around 2003, I got a second hand MR2 Mark I. I still love both Tercel and MR2. However, MR2 run faster.

My dad had two of these. He had a 200 mile roundtrip fomite for work over a mountain pass, so he two 4wd versions of this! One of them was a parts car, although he didn't often need to fix it up. He has said in the past how much he misses that car.

Also. A 4x8 sheet fits diagonally into the hatch, with some overhang. Wish I still had it. 1986. Car never died. Cruised at 80-85 very smoothly. What small or medium new hatch back can handle a 4x8?

I drive an 85 T4wd and currently sit in need of two 4'x8' plywood sheets. Looked like I might be able to squeeze a sheet in, but I've been burned trying to cram one into a Kia Sorento. The Turcel wins again!

I had to laugh when you said the first two settings don’t work on the blower fan. I have a ‘92 Geo Prizm (a rebadged Toyota Corolla) with the same exact problem. Must be a common issue with all Toyota’s that used those climate controls. Great review.

Out of all the reviewers that flood youtube, out of all the hackeyed online sites, of the hawkers and spruikers that review and regurgitate facts about cars. I would buy everyone of the cars you have recommended and hold your view in high regard as a matter of good.

First off I'm grateful that I found this channel, I've always been fascinated by quirky vintage commuter cars, (for a short time my dream car was a KE72 Corolla) your content reminds me of a mix between John Davis and Mr. Regular. Secondly If you get the chance can you review the Mitsubishi Galant/Dodge Challenger/Plymouth Sapporo? The car and platform has a very interesting history and they're not very well known about, And help to bring Mitsubishi as a brand to the US through captive imports and such... Thanks and God bless.

Glad you like the channel, more videos will continue to come. As far as requests, it's mostly just a matter of what I have access to. But I would absolutely be open to some of the Chrysler/Mitsubishi collaborations from the 80s/90s.

Looooved mine. Didn't have a tachometer, gas gage broke in the early 90s, needed to downshift to 3rd to merge on the highway. My (then future) wife hated it, but the Sharkmobile was the best car.

THe 4wd version really answers a lot of the criticism except the lack of power. The suspension is uprated with the live rear axle with anti roll bars. The interior on the SR5 is a lot more futuristic with the plaid sports seats, Tachometer and inclinometer. The amount of road noise got to me in the end howver.

But the 4wd version has an 6 speed gear box, extra low available in 4wd.

@@atomicautomobile8537 haha I kinda knew that answer going in because I've seen your review for that video so much honestly. In currently saving up for one, a 95-97 gen. I also like the early 90s sports couple, and the suv, as well as the 430. Honestly I think its probably the greatest mid range luxury sedan out there. I just can't understand purchasing a car and knowing that it will break down on you and have tons of issues. If you buy something you want it to last :)
