No miss means he shot every enemy on the screen. including the little turrets.

@@daschewie The term is misleading, it means no death not that every enemy gets shot. When you watch closely you can see that there are some missed enemies in the later levels.

@@daschewie In Japan, the word 'miss(ミス)' is used for losing a life in video games, No Miss(ノーミス) means exactly the same thing as No Death.
One of the best if not THE best shoot em up games of all time. Great graphics and awesome power ups for its time. This game was in a class by its itself at that time.
I had to help my big brother turn this game into slow motion for the final boss by rapidly pressing pause on our TurboGraphix-16 so he could know when to dodge the swirls. This was the hardest game on planet earth for us to beat but what a tremendous sense of accomplishment we felt when we did though! My jaw is on the floor watching this player win twice with no deaths. I finally learned that there is a safe zone for the final boss! Thank you for bringing back my childhood memories!
I would still quite happily put my 10 pences into this game even today, a testament to its legacy, a timeless masterpiece.

Wow dude you are amazing I remember playing that game when I was 5 years old and it is such a nostalgic experience watching you flawlessly ripping through this game no death
Truly classic side-scrolling shooter. Intro and stage 1 music are instantly recognizable and have never left my head since the first time I heard them 30+ years ago.

I actually liked R-Type more than Gradius growing up. R-Type got that spooky atmosphere i loved when i was a child
I could get about half way through Stage SIx and spent probably half of 1989 trying and failing to get any further than that. Pretty sweet to see it clocked here!!
*Real Gaming, Entertainmant and not Flash* ... As a Kid you would watch other people playing because you ran out of Coins quick... As an adult i still love watching this... NOSTALGIA !!!

It's literally one of the best things I've ever seen. I've had to wait until I'm 48 years old to see this game completed! I put so many 10p's in this game to try and finish it but never managed it. It's really amazing to see it was finally defeated. Well done, I'm so impressed This makes me want to try it one final time.
Love this game. Never managed to finish it, but love it anyway. Very nicely done playthrough :)

In my childhood I used to be crazy about playing R-type on PC-engine over and over, day and night. But I could have never made it without slow motion controller. The excellent background music turned into tremulous noise in my R-type.

I liked the game music when I was a kid. I still like it now. You are a good player. Thank you! Now I can see the full game.
I love how the artwork in this game is so detailed yet so clean at the same time. Notice how there's basically no dithering anywhere, just great art with clear shading, unless they're deliberately trying to create a very messy look like with the moss/weeds/overgrowth on the forth level, which is, imo, the weakest looking effect in the game (but that's really the only place I've noticed. Edit: And on part of the end boss). It really is stellar sprite work.

R Type and Lifeforce were the 2 best games of that era. Spent hundreds of quarters on these games

This combat is literally the most badass. Beating things with your side ships, and launching the orb backwards to take out enemies behind you. So badass.
Such a legendary opening stage. It's got everything that fascinates boys - lasers, walking mechs, mobile suits, biomechanical alien lifeform, cool BGM, you name it, and above all the Wave Cannon! The sound of charging the wave cannon synchronized with the introduction music as if it was part of it gives me euphoria. Truly an epoch-making masterpiece.

I live in a fairly small town and a couple of the pubs had arcades in them and R-Type was one, i was about 12 and that's all i did was go to the pub with my pals drink blackcurrant and soda's and play R-Type. It was that popular with me and my mates there would be a cue waiting for the pub to open to play this, and you learned pretty quick to get good or you might not play again for another hour! Anyway eventually i and one other lad managed to be able to clock it on one credit and it was a real badge of honour. The other boozer had Sega's Altered Beast and i loved that too but i thought it was hard as fuck on the later levels so this was my game and i've likely played all the versions since, i had a go on it again recently and got stuck on level 6 i guess my enemy attack patterns that were in printed in my younger mind had gone and probably my younger twitchy reflexes but great memories watching this. Brilliant play through!

I just have played Rty 3 on Ness many years ago I dis not know about 80's version I looks great like sness or almost and for my R type 3 is one of the hardest game I've ever plahed and I got stuck in one level becase the was an invisible pasaage then here on KZbin I realize it and for that reason I could not pass to next level perhaps I would finished the game if not dor that.
