Bass Pro Shops, bring back the Tornado, we all loved it.

Looking at those 80's Rebel craws and comparing them to the ones I picked up at Bass Pro a couple of weeks ago. The paint jobs were so much better back then. On current production what is supposed to be a bright orange belly looks like they thinned the paint out with water and mixed cigarette ash in.

I always remember being super excited getting that catalog when I was younger I graduated in 87 by the way

Nice lure collection. I would have to break open the Rebel color c lects and fish them. It might be a $200 collectible crank bait and get lost in a brush pile before the first bite, I wouldn't even be sad. They look too awesome not to throw. I dig it brother.

I used to put the catalog in my backpack and take it to elementary school in the early 90s. What a time.

The year after I graduated from HS, I definitely got that one in the mail along with my Mepps's catalog. Managed to save them for some years but they got lost in the shuffle...cheers.

As a child of the 80's who loved fishing, I awaited the glorious day that the Bass Pro Shop catalog arrived. And once it did, I'd look over it with my Dad. With catalog in hand, I'd go from page to page circling the new lures that my Pops and I needed for our next fishing adventures. I'd meticulously fill out the order forms and total up my bounty (with the '87 catalogue, in particular, being like 1500 sum odd dollars). I waited in excited anticipation for our bounty to arrive, but it never did, and my Dad would tell me it must've got lost in the mail...I never knew if he meant the order form or the order, but as a tweener, I concluded that the USPS really sucked at their jobs. Well, I'm 50 now, and to this day I place circles on my computer screen of the 15 thousand something dollars worth of items my Pop and I need for our next fishing adventure, and he tells me, as I'm sure you can guess, "It must've got lost in the email."

When you were zipping by the spinner baits you breezed over the Strike King Timber Spin. (9:10) That's a very cool lure! Didn't have any Storm Tubby eels, but I still have a couple of the Dance's Eels.

@@matthewspell416 They're awesome around lily pads. Spin in the open water areas in a bunch of pads, and walk right over the top of a pad, let i drop off and if you don't get hit right away, start it spinning again. It can get some vicious strikes. I've thought about buying some hardware to make my own now that I don't have anymore!

In 2008 my wife and I had our first child. She had post partum real bad and i had to take care of her and the baby. After a few years i was able to get back into fishing and went to BPS because I was getting low on Tornado spinnerbaits. I went to the spinnerbait aisle and couldn't locate them. I asked a employee where the Tornado spinnerbaits were and he looked at me like I was crazy. Evidently my Tornado spinnerbaits had become "vintage" lures. That disappointed me.
@anglingarchaeology10 сағат бұрын
The Tornado is an awesome spinner, but wow are they expensive now on eBay. Keep looking at estates and garage sales or possibly antique stores. You might find one in the wild. I wish Bass Pro would bring those back
@mikeelder629810 сағат бұрын
@anglingarchaeology The Tornado was one of those kind of baits that you either loved it or you hated it. Me? I loved it. Caught a lot of bass with it. I've got three left. But, yeah, I'd love to see it make a comeback

I was 5 when this catalog came out and my grandpa had a summer trailer at a campground. He taught me to fish off the dock he built. I was hooked on fishing after that. I remember using basic live bait mostly but the lures I remember my grandpa having were rapala style minnows and also jitterbugs. He had that old school brown tackle box. I wish I knew more about fishing then but I was a kid and he died a few years later. I still fish to this day so he taught me well. ❤ Thanks for a look into what they used to use back then.

Lots of information in those pages. I just found some more information on several lures including a few obscure lures I like to collect, the LumaLure lighted lure, the Chow Hound and the Rippin’ Ratler. Those Bass Buster Chumm’n products were a precursor to Berkeley’s Power Bait products if I remember correctly. Those BPS balsa baits were certainly trying to capitalize on the Bagley and Rapala market and look to be identical to the lures bearing the Mister Twister name sold at Kmart under their Sportfisher brand. I found another advertisement where BPS advertised they were made in Japan “exclusively” for them. The Kmart lures were made in Japan too. I’d bet they’re the exact same lures as they look identical to both the Kmart lures and Scotchline brand lures both made by Moriyama. I can’t see if there’s any script of the bills or not. Can you tell if anything’s written on them from the picture? Interesting. I’d love to be able to go back in time to buy a bunch of Leroy Brown and Shad Mann lures for $2.97 each and I too really like Mann’s Auger Snakes. In fact I’m a big fan of all of their “Auger Tail” baits. Thanks for sharing. Great trip down memory lane!

I’ll check to see if I can see anything on the bill. Agreed, the Leroy Brown lures are awesome. Fun to collect, and worth a decent amount today. As always thanks for watching and writing in!
