Back around 1980 I as fishing with some lures from an old tacklebox that I bought at the flea market. It was full of old lures and had a few Lazy Ikes and "Flatfish" types as well. I decided to do some trolling and after trying several lures with no success, I tried a Lazy Ike. I immediately started catching Stripers and hybrids! I noticed that the lure kind of "throbbed" as it went along and I could see it in the rod tip. It was the only lure that did that, so I figured it had something to do with my success. Since that time I've tried many different lures for trolling and the most successful ones are always the Lazy Ike/Flatfish type lures and you can't argue with success!

$1.49 in 1977 would be approx. $7.50 today cost of living ratio, why do they cost twice as much as they should? Since Covis prices have gone crazy!

The original Jitterbug would have to have the blade pointing down to be a deep diver with body rotated 180 degrees wedge lointing down, rotating the blade only it would still skip on the water and be top water lure as it still is today., Fred Ortel said they turned around the lip or rotating whole lure 180 degrees rotation.

Awesome! I own a 1992 Pro 17 Bass Tracker. Based on the catalog price i'm guessing a 60HP upgrade at the time was around $7,000.00.

My father's entire tackle box contained twobDaredevils 3 Flatfish, 3 spinners, and five to eight flies. He had a few sinkers hooks and clear bubbles of course. He didn't add anything to that taco box until Mister Twister came along. And he wasn't the world's greatest fisherman but he got fish.

When I got me a 2022 Xpress Duck boat, my dad gave me his old 28lb thrust Autopilot trolling motor to put on the bow. Advice he gave me few days ago be careful with it cause it's hard to find replacement parts for it.

Super Black Bass was the best game! Couldn't ever catch one bigger than the world record weight though. Broke a lot of lines. Red spinnerbait was always the go to for the big guys.

My dad absolutely schooled me on a black jitterbug in the 80s. I was working a big bass off the tip of a fallen log. Kept missing it. My dad tried and after a couple twitches, got hit on a long pause. It was so epic. It was the biggest bass I’d seen at the time. I was probably 12 or 13 years old.

The Heddon Crazy Crawler is deadly on creeks and rivers at night for smallmouth bass. I grew up fishing them here in northwest Pennsylvania. Also caught my first Muskie on one after dark in a River here. Great under estimated lure.

I made 4 knock off of True Temper lure in freshman high school metal class, couldn't afford to buy them. They were a 7/16 wide x 4 inch long bow tie folded into a U, a treble hook mounted after the bend. The 3/32" inside U gap was to vibrate cranking the bate home. I think T T painted the chrome red on one side, I used brass for 2 and aluminum for the other 2. After polishing and lacquered I finished one side with red paint. Never used them, was always afraid of snagging them. 15:43

I fish it 8-12” in front of the main lure, always use heavier line for the leader (20lb Mono). I drew out with the guy that invented it at a BASS Invitational. I’ve caught more doubles on that rig than a A Rig! Another plus is some walking baits, particularly the Sammy like to hook the front hook and that thing stops that. Someone just reintroduced a similar bait. You better give that thing another try, you’ll never fish a walking bait without one again!

Before the suspending jerk baits came along I would weight a Thunder Stick to make it suspend. Pre spawn around my house Southern NY it was like they were giving away money every weekend at my local lakes. I love that lure! The world found out when Clunn won the 1994 TN Invitational on Kentucky Lake with a weighted Jerk Bait.

Not only bass, pike will kill a thunder stick. Years ago I picked up a couple for bass but the pike killed it. Caught a few bass too👍 I fished a Rapala original floating large size for pike since I was 10 in the late sixties, the thunderstick out fished it two to one.

I had one of the larger red/white lutes . Looked really sharp but only fish I ever caught was a 15 inch crappie . Your frozen water reminded me of the first time I went fishing . Mived ti Virginia I 1965 and everybody fished in two small neighborhood lakes . That Christmas, received a Shakespeare spin casting combo and an Arbogast Jitterbug. The 'bug was a yellow 3/4 ounce joined model with pkastucweedguards in the treble hooks. On December 26 , not knowing a top water wasn't good in winter , ride my bike to the lakes , both of which were frozen over. Spent probably half an hour astugand retrieving that Jitterbug across the ice . Fantasized abouta big bass breaking through ice to take that lure . Pribablychad ittwenty years and it never caught a fish.

The Helin Flatfish, introduced in 1933/34, had sold over 40 million units by 1974. It remains the best selling lure of all time. Lazy Ike was a copy and didn't move/swim like the FlatFish. It is still available today.

When I was a kid in the 1960s there was a popular lure called a bucks sputnik. I think it must have been a different person named buck. It was a knock off version of the old Heddon sonic. They were 90 cents each and they worked really well. I still have one. Must have been a local man named buck in Alabama where I was at the time. Love your videos!😊

Enjoy your videos! I think heddon refered to a lot of their color patterns as shore minnow back in the day. I never used a heddon torpedo. I got stuck on a lure called a dalton special and the smithwick devils horse. I also enjoy using the zara spook. Walking the dog is just fun. If you ever want to make your own wooden lures top water is a good place to start. I could carve a torpedo and buy the prop from Janns Netcraft for about $1. My favorite topwater today aside from a buzzbait which i also make for myself is my rendition of a dalton special. Fun times!
