It's too bad Ford didn't sell more of these. Fuel prices were too cheap. I think had they made them today they'd sell like hotcakes. I'm glad to see there are still some around.

In 1985 this engine was also in the Dodge D50. $4000 was a sweet deal this thing looks MINT. That is a special truck :D

My dad had a 1986 Ranger but it was the gut less 1.9 4 banger, wish his had a 2.3 diesel and the fact this thing had a turbo is awesome and you could tune it to make so much power lol

Clean truck man. Wish I had one just like it. 4X4 and Diesel and I am sure it gets great gas mileage. Cant ask for anything more than that.

Sweet looking Ford Ranger. Sweet sounding diesel engine. It's unforgivable that Ford discontinued the turbo diesel engine when they did. I find it even more unforgivable that Ford discontinued the Ranger compact truck.

@kdawg33099 Yep .In 83-85 they had the 2.2 mazda/perkins. Changed to mitsu 2.3 turbo in 86,87 was last year..

1982 through 1986 the two-wheel drive Rangers had the Perkins diesel 85 and 86 the four-wheel drive Rangers have the Mitsubishi turbo diesel

I have the same kind, Only not 4X4 and not in as good of condition, But a turbo diesel none the less, I drive it every day, Does great and so far has made over 200 miles on one tank of diesel, slightly under half full

@kdawg33099 It is ironic that the 4D55T used here in the 1985-87 Ranger (and some Bronco IIs) was also previously found under the hood of some 1983-86 Dodge Ram 50s and Mitsubishi pick-ups.

I have a spare 2.3 turbo diesel if anyone is interested. The very same engine that is in this pickup. Just the engine and trans. These things are tough and go a long ways. Nice pick up you had 4everdiesel.

No it's not.. It's a 4D55T Mitsubishi turbo diesel. You can see the turbo in the engine pic. The Perkins diesels trucks are naturally aspirated, meaning no turbo. I own one of these trucks, and they'd make a Perkins diesel their bitch.

It's a 2.3l 4d55t Mitsubishi turbo diesel. Ford used this one for 2 yrs, then switched to a 4d56t for 1 yr or so.. The 4d56t engines were pretty awesome. They had a intercooler and roller cam/lifters. Fuel pump was slightly upgraded as well if I recall correctly. After that they went to a Perkins pos.. It was naturally aspirated👎

Whoops! Looks like you know nothing about the truck; a quick check on wikipedia reveals the Mazda/Perkins 2.2 was replaced with a Mitsubishi 2.3 turbo diesel in 1985. This is a different motor.

@playstation549 Your taste in trucks is horrible. Diesel Rangers are capable of going 1 million miles. At 134 thousand it's just being broken in. That truck will be more hunted down and admired more than any car you will ever own.
