11:23 -- Look at all those empty seats. The Cowboys franchise was on the cusp of hitting rock bottom; they would finish 3-13 in 1988 before Tom Landry was fired by incoming owner Jerry Jones. The team wound up 1-15 in 1989 under new coach Jimmy Johnson, but the only way to go from there was upward. The rest, as they say, is history.

What a great game for that to end up being Landry's last win at Texas Stadium.

The Cowboys had a GREAT set of receivers in 1988 but injuries killed them, especiallly the injury to Kelvin Edwards #81 (87 Strike team)

Pelluer and Hogeboom were the Cowboys’ answers to the question of not drafting Joe Montana or Warren Moon or Dan Marino. Bad.

Chris Miller's injury/safety was the KEY to this game. Concussions messed up a decent career. Miller was an underrated passer.

The last home win of the '80s by the Cowboys. Would not win at home again until Week 1 of the '90 season against the Chargers.

Man I hated Pueller. Mainly because I was Danny White fan
@classicsports50574 жыл бұрын
I'll give Pueller this much. He was better than Hogeboom but that's not saying much.
@dougeeemcfly14 жыл бұрын
Classic Sports agree. Another good thing about Pueller was that without him Dallas probably wouldn’t have been able to draft Aikman

I'm from Atlanta and I thought the Falcons back then had pretty good players. It's a shame the team did so poorly during this period. That was a dark time for the franchise.
@thewiseowl36725 жыл бұрын
Tommy Thomason Do you mean their days were brighter during their Super Bowl appearance?
@tommythomason61875 жыл бұрын
@@thewiseowl3672 i just think Atlanta's best team was the 1980 edition. They were certainly a lot of fun. And, they played no creampuffs in 1980, except dreadful 1-15 New Orleans twice. They beat St. Louis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, etc. Finally had a good line and great receivers, and a defense of Glanville rabble rousers. Firing that staff in 1982 sent the franchise into a tailspin whereby they lived in the NFC West basement for the rest of the 80's.

@@tommythomason6187 So the 2016 Falcons team wouldn't beat the '80 team?
@tommythomason61875 жыл бұрын
@@ricotubbs6691 Times are different so can't make a realistic comparison between the 1980 and 2016 team. The athletes are bigger and faster now, but the hitting rules and tackling sanctions have ruined the flow of the modern game. There are good reasons for some rules, but you can't have the real game the way it was always played, and have penalties and bans for every fierce tackle made. There's way too much of it - cost the Seahawks last year in a big game with Denver, I think. When you sat down to watch the late 70s/early 80s Falcons, you knew they were going to win the game. I'd never felt that way about them before then. That Grits Blitz of that era would be banned as savages in today's game. You never saw less that three of them in on a tackle. They were fierce!

OH I know this will sound crazy LOL...but do you have any USFL or dare I say it XFL games? I hope you have some 70-90's hockey butif you have USFL, XFL or hockey could you post? Thanks for posting these...you really help me in ways you could not imagine. Thank you so much...GO COWBOYS!! NOONAN!!!
@classicsports50575 жыл бұрын
USFL yes. Right now I'm just trying to make sure I'm posting games every day. If I ever get far enough ahead I may start putting up other stuff like USFL or even AFL and World League Kurt Warner games I'm trying to dig out.

Thank you very much. I guess you do not have hockey? Oh I would love to see some USFL games. I did not have a favorite team however I ALWAYS...ALWAYS fuck with eagles fans As soon as the city of Philadelphia got another PRO football team what did they do??? They put a STAR on the side of the helmet, called them The Stars and Eagles fans stopped Supporting the eagles and starting supporting the Stars. Especially when the eagles Owner Bramen in 1984/85 starting talking about moving the eagles to Arizona. Eagles fans were fine with that because they said "Go ahead and leave because we have the Stars now." I am telling you the eagles franchise is SOOO jealous of my Cowboys. Any eagles fan that tries to dispute what I wrote did not grow up in Philly and they have selective memories. When they put the Star on the side of their helmets I was sooo pissed. AS soon as I started telling them how they ripped of my Cowboys...their silence was deafening. @@classicsports5057
