コンシューマ機用ソフトとして人気を呼んだ同名タイトルからの逆移植作品。ある敵を倒すことで出現する武器は「ムチ」「鉄球」「剣」へとパワーアップすることができ、シリーズでもお馴染みのハートを使うことで登場するパワーアップアイテムは全５種類となっている。中でも、一定時間敵の動きを止めることができる「タイマー」は、ザコだけでなくボスまでもを停止させることが可能なため、いかに使いこなすかがクリアのポイントとなるが、「タイマー」によって停止している敵からはアイテムが出現せず、また特定のアイテムを出す敵は固定されているため、重要アイテムを持った敵には注意が必要である。基板の出荷数があまり多くなかったようで、当時でもあまりゲームセンターでお目に掛かれなかった作品。グラフィックは美しいが、操作性は悪いのが難点。全6ステージでループ。

Haunted Castle was released in February 1988. It is known in Japan as "Akumajou Dracula [Model GX768]".
Akumajou Dracula IS part of the "CastleVania" games series. However, as many games of this series, it is not part of the main storyline. The main character doesn't have any name, but it is believed to be Simon Belmont of the original "CastleVania".
King Records released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Konami Game Music Collection Vol.1 - K30X7705) on August 5, 1988. This album was reprinted (KCIA-2309) on May 21, 1993.

So basically heres what happened: Two happily couples who *JUST* got married, walked out the sanctuary and talked it out a little on how good it was, Untill Dracula saw the entire thing and was like "I'M SO JEALOUS I'M GONNA STEAL YO GURL!!!" And he did. The man was so angry that he dressed himself in less than a minute and went on a huge massacre. Thend.

Now you've got to understand that these games were gorgeous on the CRTs back in the day. For 1988, these are great graphics. Not amazing - the amazing graphics and sound effects on the most bleeding edge arcade hardware can be found in 1987's The Ninja Warriors, but the game was more mass-produced because it was made cheaper.

There are 3 versions of this game. They represent the difficulty: E Version(Easy Version) K Version(OK version, or I like to call it Intermediate difficulty.) M Version(Master Version. The toughest of all.)

Having played both games, Rastan Saga controls better and is just overall a better game. Aside from the smaller sound track that is. While the person on this video makes it look easy Haunted Castle is something of a clunky mess.

Probably the worst arcade game ever released by Konami and one of their worst games in general. This is a true insult to the Castlevania/Akumajou Dracula franchise. The controls are broken and the graphics are poorly animated and undetailed with some really bad color choices. On top of all that this game is really hard and unforgiving. The only redeeming factor is the music, which is up on the high standards of this series.

@davintheraven The problem is that we often look at those old arcade games with glass eyed nostalgia. I found myself playing many old games i considered semi-classics at the time (GunSmoke, Athena, Trojan and so on....) and realizing how broken and/or unnecessarily hard they actually are. Our memories are tricked by the aforementioned glass eyed nostalgia.... :-)
