A game of many secrets, and difficulty that will frustrate you, but you'll keep coming back because of the charm, and the secrets. Bubble Bobble series games tend to be addictive, this is no different. :)

I even prefer this to Bubble bobble in single playing... because it's hard but not impossible and bonuses are cute and funny to find!!!

But, it's not the same.
@Bloodreign17 жыл бұрын
The creator, Fukio Mitsuji (R.I.P.) didn't believe in making 2 games the same, hence why this is different from it's prequel. The later games (other than Parasol Stars I think) weren't done by him, so the other devs went back to the original games formula.

Arcade Version: Get the Rainbow Diamonds in order, Then get to the hidden room, then decipher the language in the hidden rooms, no pressure matey NES Version: Just get the seven little diamonds without an specific order boy

I love this version even though it frustrates the heck out of me, I play the original alot as a training run for Extra but it doesn't always work though. Megadrive & Psp are the ways I play the Extra version! Classic.
@Bloodreign111 ай бұрын
Sadly that MD version of Extra doesn't behave properly, you can't manipulate items in the secret rooms, making the MD version behave like original Rainbow Islands, where you also couldn't manipulate bonus items in the secret rooms (after getting the 7 little diamonds in order, the last gem you catch after before entering the rooms determines what item is in said rooms). Even the original RI in the MD version doesn't behave properly, going the Amiga route and ending after 7 worlds, even if you collect each world's big diamond (one of the biggest FU's given to players who took the time to play through the game).

Is there any difference between this and the original Rainbow Islands: The Story Of Bubble Bobble 2?
@Bloodreign19 жыл бұрын
+VectorOmega Reversed stages (a couple at least), more aggressive bosses, harder difficulty, more obscure secrets to get magical items in the silver doors, but same way to get the games best ending and higher scores over 9,999,990 pretty much comprise this one. Info can be found here, tech.quarterarcade.com/tech/MAME/src/rainbow.c.html.aspx?g=1386 Lines 61-158 on differences, including cheat codes in the game.

Bloodreign1 most of the bosses except the original 3 extra and dragon robot, and doh didn’t look angry but the rest of them did I wonder what that’s about in extra because in megadrive even if you change the mode to original the bosses, again except for doh, robot and dragon the rest had angry faces which is like different in the original the only evil mean face that’s cartoonish however I mean that characters but last one had that face is bubble monster final boss
@Bloodreign14 жыл бұрын
The MD version should be taken at face value, it is more a port of original Rainbow Islands than Extra due to the games hidden counters behaving exactly like the original Rainbow Islands due to not being able to manipulate the secret items in the hidden bonus rooms (get the diamonds in exact sequence before getting to the boss to find a silver door in their room, the items are in there, each world has one in the boss room if you keep getting them in sequence each world). You could manipulate by getting a different color gem after you get them in correct order, I've linked to it in the comments a couple times, however it does not pertain to the Mega Drive version though. That version is definitely screwed up,because the big book of continues, an item in the secret rooms, is supposed to give you unlimited continues after world 7 (you get them already prior to world 7, but after that, no continues are allowed without the book item), but the book does squat for the Mega Drive version.

This IS the original, just hacked with levels switched around. The vanilla and Extra games play much the same, though Extra tends to be a little harder.
On world 5 in extra I can't even beat him he's hard

So basically.. the extra mode does: Enemies themes switched for all the worlds ecept for the Bubble Island, only changes the background color from black to dark blue.

@@DenkyManner Same music between original and Extra, no changes made made to the music until most of the home ports arrived. Only 4 version's retain the copyrighted music, Rainbow Islands PC Engine CD, Rainbow Islands Extra FM Towns, Rainbow Islands Extra Mega Drive, and the later Windows port from Empire Interactive of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands (not to be confused with the garbage that Acclaim put out on DOS PC's in the 90's).

I read somewhere there were a lot of more secret stuff on Extra mode, including something around the lines of a secret code you'll only get by getting the best end 7 times.
@Bloodreign111 ай бұрын
@@rafaellima83 Never heard of such a thing, then again no one has tried beating it 7 times in a row. I do have a clear of the game on Taito Memories on a PS2 memory card, but I struggled my ass off to beat the entire game, I don't have the patience to try it 6 more times, or 7 if the game doesn't save the heart under the title screen.

I own the Mega-Drive version of Rainbow Islands Extra, it’s a great game with better music than the Arcade.
@Bloodreign12 жыл бұрын
Ehh, not really, the Bubble Bobble theme in the last world sounds awfully weak, unlike this arcade version shown here., The Fairyland Story world is also missing the iconic Fairyland Story theme heard in the version shown here. All in all the MD version is decent, but is missing music in it for some strange reason. The Extra version also behaves the wrong way when it comes to the items in the hidden rooms. You can manipulate the items in the room if you get the gems in the correct order to reveal the door to the room (in each boss room), and the last gem picked up, the color of them gem corresponds to an item in the bonus room. In the original RI you had to wait till Island 7 to get the Big Book of Continues that lets you actually continue in Islands 8-10 (the game disables continues past Island 7, the book lets you retain them throughout the game, so long as you had the money to continue), in this version you could pick up that book in Island 1 if you knew what gem color corresponds to the Continue Book. The MD version does not allow you to manipulate items, so you can't pick it up early, nor does the Book have any use due to the games continue limit anyway. The arcade version stomps all over that MD version, it's not even close.
