1988-89 Supercharged Toyota MR2 Intercooler Upgrade - Installation

I purchased a new intercooler for my 89 Supercharged MR2 that is much more efficient and will bring intake air temperatures down a lot. It has a fan that I can mount to the underside of it but I haven't done that yet. I want to see the difference that just the IC makes before mounting the fan. I also want to have my rear strut bar mount altered so that I can keep it with the new thicker IC and fan. It looks great was was very simple to install. I welcome 2020 intercooler technology for my 89 MR2.

Hello Jim, did you ever find a work around for the rear strut bar?

It would have to be custom welded but it could be done. If I knew how to weld it would have been fun to design.

@@jimsgaragetoys I bought the intercooler from Kevin but haven't figured out a way to keep the Cusco strut bar. Did you notice a difference in the handling without the bar in place?

@@mr2death Not really, but I love the way it looks. I don't notice the intercooler difference since I don't live in a hot location. And if it's really hot I don't drive it since I just leave the t-tops off all the time. I was looking at extending the mounting point down so it was below the I/C.

I do notice an improvement with the new IC. The more efficient technology compared to 35 years ago is very obvious.

I'm not sure what the current costs would be as so many things are fluctuating a lot with the current state of supplies.
