Love the screenshot of the #55 Skoal/Crown Oldsmobile driven by Phil Parsons. One of the nicest looking stock cars I've ever seen.

A few observations from this classic - I started going to Dover in 1990 (Peak 500, Elliott won) which is right around the time the seat building boom began in full force at the Monster Mile. 1988 is right on the cusp. It's weird not to see any seats in turn 1. - Harry Gant's relative was EXTREMELY lucky to survive a basilar skull fracture the day before. That injury was fairly common but not talked about in the 80's and early 90's. Drivers seemed to have a higher survival rate before the seats/restraints got better in the late 90's/early 00's. - Still miss these old 500 milers at Dover and Pocono. They were such an awesome grind and test of man and machine.

That 1988 season was pretty brutal.

brutal, yes. But it was SO EXCITING. Best season for NASCAR
@JSchaffer2144 жыл бұрын
@@MrChristopherHaas Agreed. If I were a driver, team owner or member I would hate this season but it was fun to watch for the fans because it was unpredictable. Although I think 1992 was the best NASCAR season overall even though I'm a big Awesome Bill fan.

Mark Martin casually passing cars on the outside in the early laps. Seems asphalt was better than concrete for racing.

Yes and #96 Dana Patten is in the US Chrome 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Delta 88 body style that he would use in all of his attempts in 1988. Hillin ran the 1987 LeSabre in several races in 1988. Most of the short tracks and I think at Riverside.

thank God this was shortened to 400 miles. Should've done that a lot sooner.

No they are put it back 500 miles and left the damn men be men and a little boy said the house that can run 500 miles that's what separates the men from the boys and what is the matter with stock car racing right now if you got a bunch of punk-ass kids after running who couldn't pull 500 Mi Dover or run a Talladega race in the end of July 250° they took what separates the men from the boys out of stock car racing and that's what's wrong with it today

Would of been interesting to see what kind of attrition would of happened had they gone 500 miles.Morgan was down a cylinder at end along with Davey too.

For those who prefer shorter races, may I suggest that "drag racing" might be more suited for you!
