I was at this race with my Mother and Stepfather, we were in the infield parked on top of a banked turn of the infield road course. We had a good view of most of the track but had a great view of the cars coming through turns 3 and 4. Me and my Stepfather went walking around with a video camera making a tape to send to my sister and brother-in-law who were stationed in Germany at the time. I remember a drunk guy talking to us thinking he was on TV, he said "Hey Mom, I'm okay, just a little drunk though", it was so funny!!! What a great time to be alive!!!

The intro is freakin' awesome!! Man I miss this period of NASCAR!!

I've never understood why this hasn't been re-done. It's like where they used to do the speed comparison at Daytona with a car doing full speed vs. a street car doing 55 mph. This particular song is timeless and could so easily be done today with using contemporary footage plus footage from the 80's and 90's.

Man, if only Davey had been able to finish his career. How different the NASCAR record books would be.

Robert Yates Horsepower son! Man Davey left right when he was starting to peak, as Earnhardt said.

Man, there are so many races on here it's overwhelming. I may just have to do a marathon, not EVERY race in order, just a few favorite tracks, like this one, and Daytona, and the Coke 600s. THANK YOU.

I recorded this race on VHS tape that day.

A couple of notes about this race. First, the race's finish duplicated the finish of the 1987 Winston 500, with the same two drivers finishing 1-2 (Davey Allison and Terry Labonte). Secondly, Mark Martin, who finished third in this race, would also finish in the same position in the DieHard 500 a few months later in a race won by Terry Labonte. Also, this was the second of three wins in the Winston 500 for Davey Allison, which matched his father Bobby and Buddy Baker, and later matched by Dale Earnhardt , Sr., Dale Earnhardt, Jr, and most recently Brad Keselowski. The only driver with more wins in the Talladega spring race is Jeff Gordon, who is the Talladega spring race's only four-time winner.

Phil Parsons won the 1988 Winston 500. Allison/Labonte finished 1-2 at Talledega 500

49-year old Harry Gant still competitive, and especially in 1991 as a 50+ year old.

He was just warming back up in 1989! Broke his winless draught at Darlington, declared "The Bandit is back" in victory lane then proceeded to have a great 3 year run!

I listen to these races on my earbuds sometimes. I don't mind the mono sound. So what? I just take one of the earbuds out and listen. No problem.

1st race for the Chevy Lumina. Never liked that car. The 4th gen Monte Carlo was the last of the race cars that closely resembled the street car and actually used production parts on the race car.
@jameshart76592 жыл бұрын
The lumina used stock sheet metal, hood, roof, deck lid. And 89,90 they used stock grills.

I have a big, news flash for Clint Boyer. Clint Boyer, is one of the worst drivers, in the history of NASCAR, not, Michael Waltrip. Michael Waltrip, won 2, Daytona 500r races.

Did NASCAR pay these commentators to say restrictor plates make racing better? Because I really disagree. These poor beasts are neutered and you can tell. I understand the need to slow the speeds, though. In ‘87 the cars were going so fast they were nearly floating. Still, I prefer watching the unrestricted racing.

The NASCAR-mandated finish - a 43-way tie for LAST place. :roll: Like Earnhardt, Sr., said - "Build BIGGER fences!"

NASCAR wanted pack racing for the crowd excitement. Drivers hate it because of the fact of death is so very close.
