1988 Ford Ranger Ignition Cylinder Won’t Turn To On And Is Stuck! Fixed And Running!!!

My 1988 Ford Ranger had a stuck key. I could not turn it to on. If I could turn it to on, the repair would have been easy. I was left with an option of drilling into the lock cylinder to break the pin which holds and releases the cylinder. It worked! After drilling for a few minutes, I was able to take out the bad cylinder. But alas a new problem - I had broken of the tab deep within the cylinder. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, I was able to turn the broken off stem and tab (like turning the key to on), and pull it out. Once this was removed, inserting the new lock cylinder and attaching the wire was easy! My Ranger started back up and has been running ever since. $20 part at Autozone saved me money by doing it myself.

How did you get the broken stem piece out?

He dident he replaced the entire cilinder . Their is a pin that needs depressed while the kea is in it. You can drill out the cilinder to get in it to make it so you can depress the pin to pull the hole lock cilinder out 👍

Take the green plastic thing out the the little peice if metal behind it the the broken peice cones out easy. If you need to Stat it and you have a chip key which would be years 97 through 2007 I belive but anyway do as I said above then hold your chip key str8 up and down in front of the hole then with the other hand stick a screwdriver in there and turn like your stating it if it doesn't start you don't have the key in the right spot fir the comp. To read it turn it back off with screwdriver and stay again it will start once you get key in right spot. TRUTH 💯 FACTS

I put anew ignition lock and when I try to start the ignition stays on with the lock is in off do you have any idea what's going on

Fucking hell had my wheels at full lock and the ignition wouldn't turn at all! I got scared

F you have a chip key 97 threw 2007 I belive but anyway take out ignition cylinder take out green plastic thing g behind ignition and little peice of metal behind that then hold toyr chip key str8 up and down in front if hole then with other hand put screwdriver in there and turn on Luke your starting the truck it should start if not you don't have the key in the right spot turn it to off position and try again it will start as soon as you have the key in the right position fir the system to read it TRUTH 😉
