1988 GT PERFORMER / VERTIGO???????????? Part 1

Bro the way it angles down in the back, and the three holes in the forks that looks like a 1986, I had an 86 Pro Performer lime green frame looks the same

Now that I look at it yes that top tube Bend is different it's more elongated

The 88 GT Vertigo ST was basically the exact same frame / fork as the 88 Performer.... except for one very important difference... the Performer was a high-tensile steel frame (chain stays & seat stays) whereas the Vertigo ST was made from 100% 4130 CHROMOLY ("4130" Stamped on the bologna cut & forks). Aside from the VERTIGO's superior (to the 88 Performer) construction, it also came with factory 48s albeit cheap quality hubs and hoops vs Tomahawk mags, a rotor vs a GYRO, etc.... The Vertigo ST in 1988 would have had the cable guides welded onto the downtube x2. The dip of the seat cross tubes would have been the same on both frames. Only one true way to tell. Have an OES PMI test done of the frame and fork. If it shows up as 4130 everywhere then it is a Vertigo ST.

Man thank you so much for this information. The frame is stamped 4130 on the forks and the bologna cut. I’m actually getting this bike back from a friend so I’ll decal it Vertigo St. Now was there a regular Vertigo and a Vertigo St?

Nice that definitely cleared up a lot. Gt should have clear with the 1988. So the Vertigo St was a 1 year only bike?

@@bmxtrashtalk6879 well if you want you to think of it that way then yes, one year only. But like the 1986 conundrum when they had half a year GT world tour and the other half, GT Pro Freestyle Tour. Same bike.

It's stamped 4130 bro, that's a GT Pro Performer.

It’s not a Pro Performer. The 1988 GT pro Performer received the S-bend downtube like the PFT. It is an argument between a Performer and a Vertigo. Period.

Most pro performer had 4130..just a performer..no 4130 stamp...vertigo no 4130 stamp..

This 88’ has the 4130 stamped on the forks and on the back pole below the seat.

As looking for info on these 88 frames...performer or vertigo used same frame...just GT frame stamp..same coaster brake welded bracket...n brake line tabs...for bottom tube brakes...

Hmm yes thats frustrating, i was going to say performer cause of the cable guides on downtube but i see vertigos had that too. Still a dope bike sucks it didnt have better paint and og decals. Thats a candidate for a restoration

Pro performer was 4130 stamped...regular performer no 4130...vertigo no 4130..also...thats wat i always seen n heard...both 88 performer n vertigo st came in electric blue..
