Yeh I had the chance to see it in live on TV. A great moment when you're really proud to be Hungarian.

thank you so much for the upload. I remember this event as if it was yesterday watching as an 8 years old. She became my idol for a good few years. No she she has 3 teenage children and all swim on competitions. Go egér!

Around 4:40 you can hear the Hungarians chant "Hajrá Egér" and at 5:46-48 "Szép volt Egér". Basically "go for it Egér" and "you made it"\"it was nice Egér". :)

Well, the announcers were wrong. Egerszegi means in Hungarian: a person from Egerszeg, which is a town's name in Hungary. It has as much to do with mouse (egér) as Hungary with hungry. Nothing. Her nickname was Egér, though, that is Mouse. Just a pun on Egerszeg.

Egerszegi lost about a second total on flip turns to Sirch and still beat her.

Eastern European countries dominated the 1988 Olympics - Soviet Union and German Democratic Republic as the first and second in medal tables, and the USA is distant third, if not fourth or fifth even.

Listening to these 2 guys call the race, I thought the winner's first name was Little....not Kristina. More than a 'little' creepy, the way Criqui and Naber fawned over her, but it was 1988, I guess.... Having said that, Egerszegi is one of the greatest swimmers of all time.

Oh please....give it up you damn feminist- the announcers did fine and are famous announcers for that matter...especially Bob...and Jon Nabor is no slouch...former Olympian give him respect!
@jaygoldman96865 жыл бұрын
I would think Jon Nabor ( former Olympic Gold Medal swimmer) knows the swimming world a lot better than you....and that a 14 year old is still a kid really....be honest! That is sensational for a 14 year old to be competing with other adults and challenging for the gold. That is his point.....he is not fawning over her there is nothing sexual there. You are a feminist moron!

@@jaygoldman9686 I swam next to Egerszegi Krisztina in the same pool Spartacus in Budapest in 1988, and it was amazing to see her, she was flying on the water on backstroke, her movement was so dainty and impressive. I really loved her, yes, i was in love with her, she was very kind and I really liked her face. We were born in the same year, and I remember my swimming mates asked her signatures, all of them, accept me. Me, I just stood there and watched her...
