Aurelia Dobre was such a beautiful gymnast, too bad she was injured right at the Olympics. Lines to die for.

Yes, she competed at the 1989 worlds. She retired because the Deva training center shut down during the Romanian revolution. Silivas retired for the same reason.... I am glad Dobre competed here though... she's worthy of a showing in the Olympics.

yo am I the only one who fell in love with Celestina Popa after watching these olympics? i mean just look at her! she's so cute and pretty and so adorable! and such personality on the floor! i mean i know everybody was looking at silivas the whole time, and don't get me wrong, i love Silivas with all my heart, she's my goddess, but looking at Celestina made me so happy ;)

Awwwww. Silivas looking so concerned for Dobre after floor during line up. She looked like she was checking her knee to make sure she is ok.

WOw the Romanians were so artistic, The dancing, the style... So impressive... What happened? lol

Coach Maria Cosma defected and so did Adrian Goreac. Belu came in and took over and then he let Mariana Bitang do some choreo during the 90's... Adriana Pop helped sometimes but the result is evident.

So all 5 Soviet floor routines count, they have no low score to throw out - why wasn't Omelianchik brought on? Isn't that what an alternate is for? To compete when one of the team is injured and unable to?

i agree, the girls back then seemed to be more artistic with their gymnastics not the mention that alot of the girls today ... their form is just terrible! i was an elite gymnast in 1998, i shattered both of the ankles doing a piked full in on floor at tenn. state champs, i look at these girls here and i think.... there is no way that i would have ever gotten to this level, because the coaches that i had were only worried about the big tricks not the form!

For a 17yr old you know a lot! as a Brit I must say shes not someone I remember....I was 9 @ the time of the Seoul olympics but remember the battle between YS & DS...its funny at the time I thought Silivas was robbed but seeing her form on the vaults ive changed my mind I must admit - as your quite knowledgable can I ask what happened between Moceanau & Karolyi in the end then?? I hear there was also a falling out!! I say 'also' cos I seems quite frequent for coaches and gymnasts to fall out!

I really wish she hadn't competed here. She looks sad the whole time, and I think she might have aggravated the injury more by competing. Did we ever see her again after this?

Yes. 1989 Worlds.

How did Strazheva injure herself? It's odd to see a gymnast tear ligaments on a back handpring? It makes me wonder if she injured herself prior to that in some other way and then it just gave way at an inopportune moment. It seems clear it happened during the attempted acceleration into the dismount, as the way she buckles and falls on the beam before slumping to the ground.
@eb74468 жыл бұрын
Oh, hm rewatching - she's not going into the dismount it's a layout step out.
@eb74468 жыл бұрын
And actually her knee does go kind of wonky when she tries to save it, so that could be what caused it.
@p.alsol93627 жыл бұрын
Watch her fx compulsory routine. You can hear a snap when she landed her last pass. People think it was carrying the injury from there
@mmoran35 жыл бұрын
You can see her foot get caught on the beam when she landed that layout. It twisted her knee

i waaaay late; guessi g the commentator had a good angle of the fall, bc he gasped when he mentioned the hard landing

What specific language is 'slavic'? silly man.... Romanian is a romance language anyway, not a slavic language.
@eb74468 жыл бұрын
No, but the Romanian language due to it's location in Europe did have some Slavic influences to their language. Dobre, I imagine is similar to the common Bulgarian surname - Dobrev(a), which I imagine means golden, if what the commentator says is accurate.
