If you have the video of you actually putting in the carb would be helpful. It took me an hour to put it back on and was hoping there was an easy way to do it. The upper boot is a pain and I had to use a screwdrive to pry it on.

Hi I'm facing the same difficulties right now. Have you found an easy way by any chance ?
@michaelota5167 Жыл бұрын
@@larygolade5768 No. I've taken it off several time and each time a big ass pain. Just gotta to wedge it in with a screw driver on the top part boot and bust a few knuckles doing so. Then spray carb cleaner on the boots while the engine is running to see if you put a hole in the boot.

@@larygolade5768 I'm doing it now. This is what I did. first I put high temp gasket sealant on the v boot and then put in the gaskets. I then installed the v boot. Wait about and hour. Take off the vboot and then connect it to the bottom of the carb. (If you dont do the sealant the gaskets just fall off). Then install the throttle cable but on the end of it in each holes. Just remember that the top cable goes to the top and bottom goes to the bottom of the throttle bracket. then instal the carb with the vboot on. Use screwdriver to wedge top of carb to top boot. It will go in eventually. I've tried the vboot install first and found no way to install it on. Let me know if someone has done it with the vboot on first cause I would like to know how you did it.

The rubber intake is prone to cracks and leakage so inspect those thorougly. They're cheap to replace.

Love the video. Bike sounds great! How many miles are on it. And is it actually a 1988 Virago 250?? My 1988 is called a Route 66, not a Virago hence the confusion. I removed my air box and put a pod filter on the side of the frame. Rejetted carbs, main only not pilot, and mine tops out at around 80-85 on flat ground. I’ve had it around 115 downhill with a gnarly tail wind haha. And I weigh 175. Got the bike with 7000 miles on it and currently has 21000. Electrical problems WILL show their face soon be prepared LOL.

Maybe a stupid question but why does a 250 has 2 trottlecables and a 125cc only one? The 250 carb also have a spring on it?
@rabidsquirrelgarage7454 жыл бұрын
The 250 does have a push-pull throttle (two cables). No spring that I'm aware of.

@@rabidsquirrelgarage745 Hey DJ - Just came here looking for info on the 2 cable system too. I have an 88 Virago 250 (Canadian) and mine actually has two cables and a return spring. I was having an issue where when I'd open the throttle it wouldn't close on it's own when I released the throttle grip ...I thought maybe the cables were just binding so I oiled them etc. Still had to close the throttle manually...upon closer inspection I realized that the return throttle cable was broken and it was binding inside the cable sheath. Once I removed it, the throttle closed itself no problem as there is a spring on my carb. Not sure I really need a return cable with the "snappiness" of the return spring but I'll likely buy a set and change them both - if one is worn to the point of breaking who knows how long the other one is going to last - could be the originals still on it. Someone else said the advantage of having two is if you break the accelorator cable you can always switch it out with the return cable and get by with just one to get home. These videos of yours are a great resource - thanks! KT

Just out of curiosity... what is your thoughts on inline fuel filters? Do u think they can restrict and cause issues or?
@rabidsquirrelgarage7454 жыл бұрын
Most don't unless they are old and filled with debris. I only use High Flow filters. They do not restrict.
