For the antenna: volvo sells a repair kit for it. This has the tooth cord in it that you need to repair it. It's a bit of fanagelling but you can do it if you have some patience. The kit is the same for 740, 760,780 and 940 (maybe even early 960?) For the roll cage: the contrast color would be bright ORANGE. That would be nice.

Nice car. I have my father's 740 T with 21,000 miles. I had to replace a piece of the exhaust pipe... I even reused the original clamp. I take it out a few times a year to take dad for a ride.

I bought a 79 240, the only thing wrong with it really was the engine wasnt runing too good, trouble with cold starts etc, a good solution was a carburetor swap, getting rid of the semi injection, so what I did is I pulled the motor & put a 5.3 vortec in it, it should run good now 👍

good lord that thing is so cherry! you should STEEL-IT the cage. they have a kinda darker silver. would go great with the blue, have some pop to it, its super tuff and holds up over time and actually has steel in the paint making it weldable!

If you're just going to be driving like a regular person, the 5 cylinder is pretty sweet, even just the 170hp n/a one. And the 850 seats are super comfortable and supportive, people commonly swap them into older volvos.

If you’re going to do the headliner yourself a lot of forums say you should use glue but that can soak through some fabrics and make it look low quality. i had to redo mine twice before i got it looking how i want. normally the foam itself has deteriorated and caused the fabric to separate from the headliner board, so usually it’s best to scrap the factory fabric, and scrape off the old foam. i’ve found that you can get 6’ wide 8th inch foam and it was perfect at least for mine. contact cement seemed to work the best, applied with a paint roller lightly as to not push it through the fabric and just adhere as directed.

For the headliner fiber board you can put fiber glass epoxy on the board and it makes it wayyy stronger and it lets the fabric stick to the board better

Kool car. That settles it, I'm keeping my garaged 1989 740 GL, (auto) 114HP completely stock, with 95,600 miles on it. I drive it like a "old lady" when in reality actually I'm a "old man". I know you're going to replace the headliner and I'm wondering how that can be done on the sedans, as opposed to the wagons where you have a huge rear door opening. My solution for my far-rear area headliner is to use "all metal flat head sewing pins"... the trick is to protect your fingers with a metal thimble and push them in from horizontal angle so the imbedded portion can't just easily pull down and out. Not pushed straight in where various types of pins can easily pull down and out with the open window wind.

Basically my exact car, did an IPD cam, holset he-35 with tims turbo exhaust housing, ipd springs, s60 r rims with Hancook v12s, no rust, took every panel off, cleaned coated and reinstalled, 1990 tail lights, fancy new turn signals, standard, sunroof (the metal one) leather etc etc etc etc. but guess what, no where to keep it, lost my job, sold it to a ding dong for like 1500$ 😭 that was like 3 years ago and I’m still heartbroken
