My 1993 Toyota Pickup's A/C was blowing warm and had lost refrigerant charge. Let's replace the air conditioning compressor and see if we can make the air cold once again.

The A/C still works in my '93 but the compressor is getting noisy and both the low and high pressures go too high. I plan replacing at least the compressor, filter dryer and expansion valve but it looks like the original Denso expansion valve is not available. Also, the R-134 style compressor for the late 1994-95 models are cheaper than the older style for R-12. I'm wondering if I could just go with the cheaper unit since my a/c is already converted to R-134?

Pretty cool - I had to replace the compressor on my suzuki forenza. It was underperforming

I have a 93 4runner 3.0 my a/c is shot. So I just need to get the system flushed and swap out compressor to do a refrigerant change? I don't have to change any lines?
@shanesgettinghandy Жыл бұрын
I’ve never done the swap, but provided your compressor still works, you should be able to keep using the same one. It’s definitely worth researching though.

I thought it came out through the wheel well area…remove tire and plastic splash shield …Did you use the same condenser and other R12 times or convert everything?
@shanesgettinghandy Жыл бұрын
You know, it might also go out that way, but it made the most sense to me to take it out the bottom. I only had to remove what you see in the video, and I only needed to remove one bolt via the wheel well area, and didn’t even remove the tire or the plastic to do it. 🤷♂️ Let me know how it goes, I’m curious.

Also, someone had previously done the R134a conversion on my truck, and I’m not sure exactly what that involves, but I do know the R12 compressor will still work provided you change the oil.

How many oz of oil did the compressor take?
@shanesgettinghandy10 ай бұрын
I didn’t measure it exactly, but it was approximately 3-4 oz of oil.

I appreciate it brother! I’m about to do the same to my 93 4Runner with the 3VZ

That’s a great idea wearing those medical gloves! I wonder how you thought of that?
