Thank you for your video. I just finished replacing the pump on my 94 idi after watching you do yours. It cleared up the clouds of smoke coming from the tailpipe and I must have 20% more power with at least 20% better fuel economy.

I found it much easier to crack the fuel lines at the pump before removing the pump then leave them loose while reinstalling it gives a bit of movement. Tighten them down after there all connected back to the injectors. The only thing that needs to be marked is the injector housing to the cam gear cover with a fine scribe line before loosening the mounting nuts. I made the wrenches to remove mine over 25 years ago for my 6.9 but used box end wrenches open end wrenches tend to round the flats on the nuts. I still have those wrenches in my tool box today but no longer have the 6.9.

NICE! I have a drawer full of strangely bent wrenches from 52 years of working on vehicles.

Great video! 8 years later I found TEKTON tools makes a 9/16 offset wrench that works great to get those 3 bolts off if you don't have a torch or means to bend a spare wrench.

I am only 14 and my dad has given me a 7.3 1989 Ford F-350 and before that we let my grandpa drive it to work for a while and it was blowing out to much black smoke so he took it out and did something to it and now it sprays fuel at the wrong time. This video helped me a lot thank you

OK I just replace thanks for video now I need more help how do I bleed the lines and now all of sudden the batteries are dead and when I tried to jump them looked like I was trying to put positive on negative when I wasn't I have no battery power won't crank over help it cranked fine be for I swapped it crank once after then died
@chris100779 жыл бұрын
Hello sorry your having trouble . Make sure the batteries are fully charged using a battery charger . Leave all the fuel lines loose where they connect to the fuel injectors crank engine until you see fuel leaking then tighten down fuel lines and try to start . I also did a video on the procedure I did to start the engine after fuel injection pump install. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWmoco1olr-aesk

Did you put the engine in TDC before you pulled the pump off, or did you very carefully rotate the engine with the timing gear unbolted from the pump until the dowel lined up?
@chris100779 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Griffin I didn't worry about TDC I just put marks with permanent marker on the timing gear with the old pump in place and put the new pump in without disturbing anything. After new pump installation I static timed using mark on timing case and pump, lined them up then primed fuel lines and started the engine.I did a video on starting after new pump install kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWmoco1olr-aesk
@thunderstruckredneck9 жыл бұрын
+chris10077 So how did you know the pump was sending fuel to the correct cylinders at the correct times?
@chris100779 жыл бұрын
Joshua Griffin When you mark with permanent marker on the timing gear and case and don't disturb the rotation of the engine the new pump will go in the same as the old pump there is a metal dowel that will only let the pump mount one way ,so as long as the marks that you make on the timing gear and case match you shouldn't have a problem .
@thunderstruckredneck8 жыл бұрын
If you remove the four bolts and pull the gear and housing off with the pump, it will be out of time with the rest of the engine. If you remove the little plate with two bolts underneath the oil fill tube, (or the fill tube itself on some trucks) you can remove three bolts holding the pump onto the gear. Then the gear will not move while the pump is out. The other gears keep it in place. Then the dowel pin insures the pump is timed to the gear when you put it back together.

i got no fuel gauge when i looked when i know it was full in tank fuel pump maybe also that might of went bad not the injector pump
@chris100777 жыл бұрын
jesse james You could loosen one of the fuel lines at one of fuel injectors and crank the engine if it leaks fuel you will know your fuel pump is working.
@jessejames69237 жыл бұрын
right i think it could be the send unit in the tank also ill have to test both i guess the fuel went to zero shortly after a fill then the truck starting running weird like zero power smashing the fuel and then nothing stranding me at 2am snow plowing sucked huge time
