As a CB-1 owner, I appreciate the video, but have to laugh at some of the stupid comments by people who don’t have any idea what they are talking about, like one comment about a “single rotor and budget caliper”. This bike had a huge rotor for it’s day, much bigger than the CBR600, and more than adequate for club racing, this is a 400 lb curb weight bike and two fingers are all that are needed for braking. The rotor is the same size as the Hawk GT which came out the year before and had the largest brake rotor ever fit on a production motorcycle. I have a bunch of old Hondas, including a 1990 NSR250SP, a Hawk GT, and a 919 Hornet, yet the CB-1 is one of my most ridden bike because of the fun factor. And to address the other stupid comment about “a rich guy bragging about his bikes”, it looks to me like a passionate lover of motorcycles that decides to spend his money on that passion. Down with the haters, show some love.

Thanks for watching and commenting on the video , much appreciated! The CB1 is a very special bike. When I bought my first bike (used), it was a V30 Magna. Next to it was a used CB1 for not much more $, to this day I have no idea why I bought the Magna, should have bought the CB1. However that lapse in judgement is part of the reason I have this one today.

I wouldn't call these "awesome". Top speed: (118 mph) Weight:187 kg wet. While these may eventually reach 118mph it would take a very long time to get there. And look at that weight! What a porker for 50bhp.

@@theaustralianconundrumVdeo was edited, it wasn’t cold when I rev’d it to 10k. Not my first rodeo. As I mention in the video, I make sure they’re fully heat cycled. Nothing gets rev’d like that when it’s cold. Temp gage isn’t boiling but recall there is a fan running in front of the bike and the Radiator fan had been on and off several times already

I have to get one of those handy temperature readers - I'm still using a pin spray-bottle and watching for steam. Love the CB-1, they were a bit pricey when new, probably why they didn't sell well.

I'm restoring one that has sat for 20 years, its a nice survivor with some marks, clear coat peel a bit around the gas fill, etc. But clean. Don't knock it yours is totally mint! The stock exhuast is pretty quiet, mine came with a full Kerker system that was put on in the day, curious to see how it sounds haha
@true-moto-resto Жыл бұрын
Very cool, the Kerker will sound great. I’ve got a “two brothers” full exhaust and another stock system for this one (they came with it ) . Stock exhaust is very quiet. Have fun with your CB1 !!

That paint shop let you down heavily. They got the colour totally wrong. Very nice bike. Thank you for sharing.
@true-moto-resto Жыл бұрын
Well, yes and no. They did the optical colour scan, and the computer then generates a “match”, but it also gives you a number to indicate how close (or not) the match will be. In this case it provided a number that said it could not match it very closely, so I knew going into pairing the spare fender and tail that it was not going to be a good match. I do my own paining and the paint supply shop mixes the paint. Problem is there is no one in my northern community that can mix by eye, it’s only what the computer generates. Thanks for commenting !!!!

@@true-moto-resto That’s interesting. I’m guessing that you are located in northern Canada, so a very different place to me: UK Midlands where I see many different models of cars from a multitude of manufacturers in car parks every day. I don’t believe Honda used ‘Smurf’ blue on many bikes, but I do occasionally see something very very similar. If I had my one and only ‘Smurf’ blue tank with me at the time, I could make a comparison. But ‘Smurf’ blue is far brighter than the version they gave you. A Pantone chart would have it in a different area to the correct one. Plus, a test swatch would have revealed the issue. Maybe the vaxx messed with his skills…!👀🧐😎😜 By the way, I’m trying to find a standard colour to match the darker blue Japanese domestic market CB-1, but it’s a much easier job because there are many more close options. I have approximately four of these little things in various stages of restoration.

@@G58 yessir, middle of the wilderness in northern Ontario. The paint shop is usually not too bad for matches, but this one , not so much. I only painted the “spare” parts, someone else’s long before I owned it had the installed parts painted and they’re only slightly better match. IDK. One day I’ll find a match and re do them I guess. Btw I was borne and raised in the UK midlands , Cheshire.

I am struggling to find a complete exhaust, OEM or aftermarket for my CB-1 project. You mentioned some extra exhausts - Care to free up some space and sell one?
@true-moto-resto4 ай бұрын
Sure thing, are you in Ontario Canada? They’d be very expensive to ship anywhere outside the province I have them listed on Kijiji www.kijiji.ca/v-motorcycle-parts-accessories/north-bay/honda-cb1-motorcycle-exhaust-sytems-1-oem-1-twobrothers/1666780637

Beautiful bike but weird that it doesn't start first crank. Mine isn't nearly in the same condition, I've got some issues with it turning off when hot and it's sadly a California spec, but it starts first crank with full choke
@true-moto-restoАй бұрын
This was the first start in 12 months, and I drained it out of fuel when I stored it so too a few cranks to get he to fire . Normally it will fire up right away, but if it’s been in storage it takes a few cranks Thanks for commenting

Thanks , hard to say if it’s a good beginner bike, depends on the rider to some degree. They’re quite rare, so I think a new rider would be better to find a cheaper more common starter bike. JMHO

@@true-moto-resto Thanks. Unfortunately London is the closest to me. 1 hour drive each way. I've found that many pumps still don't have the ethanol sticker on them even though they are using it. The owners must have "forgot." I checked this by looking at the fuel truck delivery log book.

Ho my friend, I hear you saying you turn off the fuel valve an let it run to dry the carbs. Not recommended action, you are running dry the fuel pump. I also have the pleasure of owning the same bike without all the electronic crap of the new bikes.
@true-moto-resto8 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. I use different approach depending on which bike I’m preparing for storage If the carbs are accessible, I’ll just drain the float bowls using the drain screw If they are not accessible, and no fuel pump, I just run them dry If there is a fuel pump, I will disconnect the fuel pump wiring connector and then run it dry. For my fuel injected bikes, I just use the ethanol free high octane fuel and stabilizer (like all of the others ) I appreciate the comment ! Thanks

My own experience with dry carbs over a couple of months is also that the rubber gaskets and seals become hard and brittle. As a VFR 750 owner, running the bike with fuel containing ethanol in the summer, avoiding longer periods without a full tank and storing the bike with ethanol free premium gasoline over the winter has worked out very well for me. The viffer starts on first attempt in the spring. That used to be a very different story when I was using cheap petrol containing up to 5% ethanol throughout the year. I'm considering just replacing the fuel in the carbs with thin oil, draining them with a syringe and a hose to measure the replacement volume. The float chambers are the only place I can think of where it's impossible avoid the air breathing and if everything else's topped up, I don't expect problems from ingested moisture. BTW, it's a pleasure to see your bikes in such good condition and I also like the gear driven cams sound that the CB-1 shares with the older VFRs. THANK YOU.
