if you know any guitar players,ask them for there string cut offs.they work great for cleaning small holes...now,do you happen to know the year range it which you can put a 30 carb on a 25?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD12 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah guitar string seem to be very popular. I don't believe there is a year range. I had an 83 evinrude long shaft remote that I did a conversion on to a short shaft tiller and had a 1976 35 hp carb from a parts motor I put on it and it Ripped! The intake opening on the 83 was a perfect match for the carb, never did check the inside of the intake. It gained a solid 5 mph, standard prop, and pushed my 15' Dura Craft jon boat 30 mph all day long. That thing would hydroplane! I put a lot of motors on that boat and the 83 25 was by far the sweetest! I have a bunch of videos on it. I ended up trading it for the 60 hp Johnson I have now on my 16' Starcraft. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Can you do the 35 hp carb swap on a ‘79 25 hp or this specifically for the 80’s models?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD16 ай бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. It's funny, the earlier 25's up to 76 came with a size 72d high speed jet/orifice which is bigger than any 35. The 79 25 went down to a 49d and the 79 35 has a 59d, that's a pretty big jump in size. So what I'm saying is you'll have to do a little homework, what year 35 carb is it, will you need to swap the intake manifold too, will the intake fit, blah blah blah, that kind of stuff. Or you could just slap the 35 carb on and see what happens! You can always take it off. Thanks again !

@THISOLDOUTBOARD12 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I would go back to the basics and start with the Fuel system. Is it getting fuel to the plugs or to much or not enough. Clean and set the carb properly, check for air leaks in fuel lines/intake/pump/reeds. It becomes a "process of elimination" by eliminating all possible reasons as to why it wont throttle up. If/when your convinced there are no fuel issues and it still won't throttle up move on to ignition. Could be a timing issue, is it running on both cylinders, does it have strong spark. Check spark and compression, see if you can get it to run on one cylinder at a time, sometimes that will help narrow things down, possible bad coil. Coils will start/test fine when cold but will start to break down when warmed up. It may seem like a fuel issue. A quick fuel test you can try is start it, let it warm up, then throttle it up, when it dies pull the plugs out and see if they're wet or dry, too wet its fouling out, too dry not getting enough fuel. Hopefully it's something simple like a clogged carb. But there never is just one answer until you find it. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

I’m looking to buy a boat with a 91-95 johnson outboard. It’s currently a remote steering. I would prefer to have a tiller handle. Can it be done and if so where can I find parts. I don’t want to buy handles that end up not being able to bolt on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD12 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. You need to find a steering bracket with the tiller handle setup, you'll also may need the throttle lever that fits into the steering bracket that connects with the tiller handle throttle linkage. The bottom of the throttle lever will be different but the top has to match your current lever to control the carb. I'll be using a 1983 25hp parts motor for the parts I need for the 89 25 tracker as you'll see in the next episode. Even though the two outboards are six years apart and its the old style the parts will work. The newer style uses a cable for the throttle instead of gears and can get expensive. Best to do some homework and go to marineengine.com and look up your year/model and see if they offer a tiller handle setup for it. If not check out the other models in the list and find the correct steering bracket and tiller handle. Check the part numbers on ebay for a good used parts. That's where I get everything. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

i've had this discussion with another omc head abt the 90 & 115 having the same hp rating only difference one was dyno @ the crank & the other @ the prop & how it was just a marketing tactic by omc. my buddy has a lund rebel with a 75hp merc 4 stroke & tops over 36mph. on my 90 johnson i get abt the same spd on a much lighter tracker boat & not as wide as his lund. I kno if i was to rig my Johnson on his boat it would get nowhere close to 36mph theoretically being 15hp more than his merc not to mention 100 lbs more. I have also up the size of my jets to a 3/64 from a 1/64 with no change to top end spd but stronger idle & torque with increase fuel economy so now i reverted back to the oem carbs that runs more lean but dont foul up the plugs as much when trolling. so up sizing jets has its pros & cons.
