This is a series III Infini. The series III and IV were available in black or dark green, but not white. Being that this car is a 1989, it would be a series III. The series IV was made in 1990 or 1991 (can't remember for sure).

Hi guys, i have a 89 NA fc3s. I was hoping to convert my seatbelts from the old school retracting to the regular pull type. As we all know those darn retracting seat belts aren't reliable and my passenger side is stuck in the front position. I live in Hawaii and finding that part is impossible for me. I would appreciate any help. Also i have a full black interior. Thanks everyone!

This is an interesting car as series 1 and 2 were available in white and black, series 3 should be noble green only which is a very dark green that almost looks black. The infini seats in black were a series 4 only and that's the car that had a little more power then stock and it was available in forest green or noble green. The series 1 and 2 came with the same seats in purple and I've seen series 3 with both purple and black seats so I believe the series 3 seat color depends on how late in production it was. Either way it's a cool car but it looks like a series 3 with a black re spray to me

No, the series III was available in brilliant black or noble green. The green was more common, but black was a factory color

I know you mentioned its condensation from the A/C but I can clearly see coolant right below the coolant fill cap all over the fan shield. You sure you didn't open up the thermostat cap while it was hot and got coolant everywhere? ;)

Usually some coolant will spill out when I check the radiator. I do it on all the cars before I shoot the review. Even when cold, there will be pressure under the cap and about 2-3ml of coolant will come out. In some cases, more than that.

Basically same car. This had maybe 15 more HP from factory and a lot of mazdaspeed bits but same basic car.

When being a seamann, I used to gather distillate water from the a/c's. And, you know, it IS almost absolutely pure H2O. Almost no any contaminants. Yes, I've performed chemiocal analisys . So, this water is not good for drinking (applicable, but seldom) and good for any technical purpose. Adding into the accumulator battery or cooling system for example. :-)

i'd say an awesome and perfect car as it is right now, except the small things, such as repainting and that bolt/nut removing/remanufacturing from the nut style rim cap, which i never liked on any rim..good rims/wheels, ride height, roll cage, chassis stiffening, everything..

someone correct me if this is wrong but about the rear spoiler... mazda was able to cheat the law and mount the spoiler to the body because the hatch is technically an openable window... i'm not explaining this well sorry =/

Yes, the aluminum hood are not exclusive to this model. 1989 had them in their higher end models according to Japanese Wikipedia (though I don't think the cabriolet got them).

Not all S5 'bonnets' were aluminum here in the states. I believe all USDM turbo II's have aluminum regardless of S4/S5, but the naturally aspirated cars were mostly steel save for a few special models. I have never personally seen a steel turbo 'bonnet' here but I've been told they exist in Japan. I've also been told that all USDM convertibles had aluminum hoods, and every one I've encountered was in fact aluminum. It's somewhat odd how they picked and chose which cars got what. It never made much sense to me.

Those are stock lockable storage boxes. FCs came with either those or some super deep bucket seats. When I was a teenager, my gf had an 86 base with the seats, I had an 88 gxl with the storage compartments. I fit 4 of my tall and or fat guy friends in it lol one in front seat, one behind each seat on the bins, one curled up in the hatch, was crazy :p otoh, she almost never took anyone in hers, but the few times she did, it was funny watching people drop I the seat and then try to get back out. Hers was auto and felt like it had half the power of my 5-speed. Mine was extremely fun to drive, and the cockpit felt very driver oriented, the height of the armrest and shifter were perfect for me. Have an rx8 now but consider importing a TII in the future as well as building an FD. Rotaries just feel different and I quite enjoy them; but I also love a 70s era big block in both sound and crazy low end torque that makes you forget you are driving a 3 ton car ;)

I checked on the Japanese Wikipedia. Unless I am reading it wrong- The FC and the FD used the Efini name in different ways. The FC had a special version called the Savannah RX-7 "∞" (Efini or Infini possibly). They decided to keep the name for the FD, dropping the Savannah name and replacing it with Efini.

Another "I was delighted for about 4 days after i bought the car because about 10 people said "cool car...", but after that died down, i was left with a shitty 80/90's car with shit acceleration, turning and top speed. These cars now are about as powerful and similar to drive power, turning and speed wise as a Hyundai Accent. Thats not even a joke. But the accent is quieter, uses less fuel, is more comfortable, and is almost as cheap. Buy cars because you need the atention of someone saying "Cool car" .... ugh
