We were standing outside one of those old, white barracks for some pogue-like administrative bullshit that of course took forever; it began pouring rain like crazy. One of the DI's that was out there with us took the top flap of his all-weather coat and buttoned it closed, telling us to do the same. To him, that was all we needed to stay comfortable.

If a Marine stands at attention, and tells me, "good morning, sir!" I don't care if I'm the Commandant himself. I will return the respect. Period. I spent a lot of time with the Marines at Camp Pendleton. Former fire captain. When times were hard, those Marines had my back. They helped my family. Respect. I do not care how important you might think you are. When a Marine says "good morning" there is an answer. Oorah!! Semper Fi. Hope this clears things up.

Oorah Brother! We may have been there at the same time and have crossed paths. I graduated Plt. 2049. I shipped out of Tampa on 8 April 83 arriving after midnight on the 9th. I believe we graduated July 01 as I remember we were there for 12 weeks. I was able to go back and visit P.I. in May 2013. I was just able to drive right on. It was an emotional time for me to be there exactly 30 years to the day. My Barracks haven’t changed from the outside, right across the street from the little chapel and the parade deck, which has shrunk by more than half. I spent a lot of time in the museum looking at photos from the ‘80’s. I remember doing our processing in a very old building with steam pipes overhead. I was told by the retired Marine running the museum that they tore those old buildings down along time ago and they have this big new-looking processing building now. He also informed me the yellow steps we stood on, were moved 100 yards or so to be in front of this new building. I spent about a day and a half there driving around and reminiscing, wishing somehow I could return to that same time. But its crazy, because at that time, 30 years ago, I just wanted outta there. Yes, I thought about trying to escape, but I’m glad it was just thoughts. It be great to hear from you.

That brings back some amazing memories. I was in 2nd battalion platoon 2049 and we graduated the last part of August for the first part of September of 1982. I went during the hot part of the year and it was miserable but I grew up on the Gulf Coast and was use to the humidity so that was already a part of my life so I didn't have to get use to the humidity as if I had come from a state that wasn't humid. I have been wanting to go back there for years before I die but when I was wanting to go was about the time 9-11 hit and you could not get into the base unless you worked there or were going to see someone graduate that you were invited to watch. I would love to go back and see some of the sites that I missed and some that I already got to see but I know a lot has changed and I might not recognize some of it. It would be great however to see the second Battalion building and see if they would allow me to go to the second floor where my Barracks was. We arrived at night so I don't recall much about what it looked like driving in but it would be great to see it during the day. My parents didn't come to see me graduate but I would have loved to have had video of that day.

We heard that someone in the past broke into a gear locker and drank all the after-shave they could get their hands on and was found sick as a dog the next morning; only at P.I. or in country music will you find such awesomeness.

It was 67 years ago that I was in Able Company, 1st Bn, at Parris Island, and I can still hear the thunder of 75 pairs of boondockers going up and down those wooden stairs of the old WWII barracks. Those old un-airconditioned buildings, with no fans.

Dec '89 PI Marine, 3rd Batl. Started in late August and graduated December. Got to experience the late summer heat, changing skies of autumn and wooly-pully weather December. After graduation, my parents and I had lunch over the bridge at Beaufort. Looking across the water I couldn't quite believe I had escaped the Island XD

I was a 2nd Battalion Marine in 06, Its crazy to see all those white buildings where our sand pits were lol. I thought maybe the barracks were new then but I recall there being blooper rounds from 66 on the top of my rack so I dont think so :D. They used blooper rounds as endcaps to all the bunks.

I went through from october 2020 - january 2021. It's really cool how much of it is the same from back then. I remember this spot 5:52 exactly because my drill instructor would make us grind drill and if we messed something up we would all sprint to the hatch back there and we would sprint back to the squad bay

I went through Dec '93-Mar '94. I was awake for fire watch when it hit midnight and I had my own short celebration as the year changed over. Despite missing Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, etc, my platoon was most upset about missing the Super Bowl.

This place hasn't changed one bit. Those are the same trees, wash racks, and windows I remember. The windows used to shake at night when the thunderstorms came. And the DI's used to park the platoon just outside of the heavy shade those trees provided, letting us just bake in the sun.
