I graduated Parris Island Aug 4th, 1989, Plt. 1057. I watched the first video also; it brought back many memories I had forgotten. It was an experience I never regretted and would do it again.

I arrived on PISC on August 14, 1989. As a member of Plt. 3089 Kilo Co. 3rd RTBN we graduated and became Marines on 10 November, 1989. This video definitely brings back memories. As I'm sure many of you do, I still see myself as the 17 year old kid I was on that Island!

SEP 1989 Platoon 3096 Seeing video from that era really places the proper perspective of the time that has passed. That Grinder is iconic in my mind.

I’m looking at this, we got picked up on Nov 22nd 1989 1stBn C Co. Plt 1022, graduated on Fed 16 1990, yep thanksgiving, Christmas, new year’s and valentines day was spent training and getting ready to become the worlds most elite defenders of the free world known to mankind. But the funny thing is this. Our graduation was not like that at all. We were the first battalion to graduate with dress blues since the 50’s. We were not facing the stands in squad formation, we were in company flank formation from left to right which that is what it is to this day. We also did retirement of the guidons DI’s on quota came from behind the bleachers just as they do it to this day. We did pass and review, we did awards. But however it still bring back memories, looking at these old vehicles in the background and driving by I started to smell barbersol shaving cream and aqua velva after shave. That early morning merky swamp smell mixed with 04:00 chow smell mixing together in the freezing bone chilling morning temperature. That is a smell that you will never forget in your life. But when you get to the rifle range in 3rd phase you add the smell of gun powder in with it and it. now become recruit training colon. Man I tell you you don’t know how something so nasty can become a 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ meal the few time you actually got a chance to put enough in your mouth to even get to tast it.......... it seems like just yesterday that we were there getting ready to graduate. In fighting trim, now we are older marines ( I’m 54 now) trying to hang on to our youth. Still trying to do young marine things every chance that we get lol. (Thank the lord that we are still blessed to be here) While keeping a close eye on how the Corp is growing i'n the right and wrong directions. To all thank you for your service and to our fallen I salute you for your sacrifice for the country and the world. Simper fi
