I remember watching this as a kid and curling up when Brown Trix went down, he took off vertically, too slow, he was backing off because of his daft jockey, you could hear the impact of the fall it was just horrible. Peter Scu was absolutely right in his criticism of David Pitcher, he had no place riding in the GN, no race sense just rode the first 6 fences like a lunatic and Brown Trix paid the ultimate price sadly...

David Pitcher blamed his own horse in the end according to Peter Scudamore's book Scu was right in everything he said about Pitcher

Lol yes that was why he was lying there with his legs stuck out like a plastic toy, he was just having a little lie down!!!! Duh!!! Shouldn't laugh as it was very sad, but got to be the worst ever case of the commentator not actually looking at the footage he's discussing!!!

There was a public outcry. Brown Trix and Seeandem both killed at Bechers. He fell back into the ditch for God's sake.It was very distressing for those who witnessed it. After 89, Bechers was completely modified such was the furore. Since only Dooney's Gate.

Poor old Brown Trix good chaser in his younger days. Can't remember much about what was shown if anything was shown afterwards regarding David Pitcher, Brown Trix or Becher's Brook just remember the newspaper showing Brown Trix being dragged out of the ditch by a rope the next day. Must of been David Pitcher's last ever ride?

I think if I remember right Brown Trix did get back up they found out he had a broken shoulder later on

The last true GN. The once great ditches were emasculated after this race and of course the latest changes make a mockery of it.

Loved the racing back then 1989-90. Wish I could see the 89 Racing Post Chase again but will probably never happen so many good horses back in them days.
