We have owned 7 small motorhomes and one of them was a 24' Telstar with a Ford 460 engine, plus a gear splitter. We didn't have the couch but we did have a 4 person dinette. It was a great layout with a very reliable engine. We got an average of 10-12 miles per gallon gas mileage. I like the fact that it didn't have any of the modern ugly swirling graphics on the exterior. Telstars are/were high quality rigs!

We reluctantly sold this Telstar today after three years of purely loving it. Our two older kids are in now college and we just don't have time to use it. The new owner is apparently going to take it to Burning Man so whatever happens to this wonderful vehicle is a mystery. We want to thank the manufacturer for making a motorhome that, to us, was perfect in every way. If you're lucky enough to get the chance to buy one, do not hesitate.

I have a 1989 with 85xxx miles on it. I've put new flooring in it, painted the faded stripes, and some general maintenance. Recently new tires. We are enjoying it! Everything works, including the generator, etc. Two bunk beds in the back, which is not my preference, but it works out fine. 9mpg seems standard, which really isn't that bad for the cost. Cheers and happy Telstaring!!!

I have a 1989 Telstar..Exactly as yours,blue velour,but with the dinette table,not the couch..I am looking for the stock awning and brackets..Mine never had an awning,although it has the molding the awning slides into..So if you ever run across one I would appreciate it if you could leave me a message here..I've owned mine for 2yrs now..It was a one owner,also stored inside..I bought it in Ventura,Ca...33,000 original miles..Spotless inside..I removed the bathroom door and installed a curtain..That little bathroom door has a way of getting in the way..The owner had retired to Hawaii,so he kept it at some friends storage facility here they all kept their toys..I paid $2,750.00 for it and the owner had to buy me a bottle of Patron gold to seal the deal..I love it..The perfect size..I put overload air bags on it and a full frame hitch and trailer brakes..I pull a 20' Wells Cargo enclosed trailer behind it..Plenty of power..Mine has no overdrive,just the bulletproof C6 with the 460..I get 9mpg..Doesn't matter if I'm pulling the trailer or not..It gets 9mpg..Mine came with an Arrow 32 gallon auxiliary tank..I can imagine with only that stock 25 gallon tank the short range it would have..First thing I did was jerk the radiator and had it rodded out,installed a new water pump and heater n radiator hoses n belts n power steering hoses n thermostat..Just because they were 25+yrs old..Nothing was wrong..Happy trails my friend,Rusty here..It says Zap Cab on both doors with a caricature of Mr. Natural..If you see me say hey!!..Mine is cream with a blue stripe where yours is cream with a brown stripe..CIAO..If you ever run across a stock full length awning and brackets just like yours please holler at me

Hi Rusty, purchasing a 27 footer. Where did you mount the 32 gallon auxilliary gas tank? Thanks! Stephanie
@rusty74 Жыл бұрын
@@agapetile ~ Steph. My second tank was already on it when I bought it. One was drivers side right behind the driver. The other was on the passenger but fueled on the drivers side also. I think one was 35 gallon and the 30 gallons. I think. It’s been a while my friend.

@ Alan Heath..The closet on the back is great for camping gear and lawn chairs and lounges and the bbq and luggage and ice chests,and for storing the A-Frame tow hitch for the car,or the load leveler hitch for a trailer when you've unhooked..That closet has spoiled me..you could pack a couple months worth of food in there..Winter jackets,sleeping bags..All that gear stays in there at all times
@rusty7410 жыл бұрын
I took my spare tire off,and when we designed the hitch I had an 8 battery box made for that area..I'm slowly designing a solar system for it..The nice thing about having an open roof with no A/C unit..I think I'll end up with about a 1,000 watt tilt panel system on top..I haven't gotten that far yet..But I want to use my convection oven and coffee pot and electricity without starting up that noisy generator or wasting gas..Not that it's noisy..But silence is sweet early in the morning..I do have a TV for watching the morning news in whatever area I'm in too..Now I have to start up the gen to do any of that..My generator only had 33hrs on it..Unreal huh?

8.9to the gallon,I love these motorhomes but that wouldn't be no good in the UK.unless you just drive for a few mile's and park for 3 or 4 day's and drive home and park until you use it again.any way take care and don't spend all your money on gas.pp UK.
@bryankeller34926 жыл бұрын
8,5 mpg is THE deal breaker. Although this is smaller than an A series, you still can't just park this anywhere. You have to have a "Toad" (small car/truck) pulled behind to disconnect FURTHER killing your mpg. You mentioned you'd put only 2k miles on it. That makes the cost of insurance and storage prohibitive. Unless this is part of your work, most people, ESPECIALLY the ELDERLY need to "get the RV-fantasy" out of their minds and settle for making reservations at the beach for a week OR the mtns for the same, and just driving OR flying there. RV's will take food off your table!
@jasonzerohi6 жыл бұрын
We ended up putting about 30k miles on the trusty Telstar. Insurance was really inexpensive. Only about $200/yr. For a family of 5 it was a dream to own.

Chris a friend of ours bought a 1988 telstar that is very similar to yours but in poor shape. Had we seen it before they bought it we would have recommended they keep looking. They re-painted the exterior and put in new carpet and upholstery. The motor runs pretty good but it hasn't passed smog yet. They're still working on that. This past weekend we camped together to check things out. One problem they're having is the hydraulic leveling system. It works but not very good. We looked for a place to check the fluid and can't find a reservoir. Would you mind telling us where yours is located? Checked behind the bumper and underneath by the front tire as suggested online but didn't have any luck. He has no manuals so we're shooting in the dark on everything. Also out of curiosity, we looked for the "hidden feature" in the closet and are still scratching our heads. Do you mind sharing your knowledge about the coach and maybe a copy of your manual? My email address should you not mind responding is dennysbabe@aol.comYou can also text me at 760-413-5470. Either works for me if you don't mind helping. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give!Phyllis

I can't see the point of having a closet at the back of the vehicle unless it is to act as the boot (or trunk as Americans say). Or garage as we European motorhome users say.
