1989 Yamaha Riva Razz 50cc Scooter (SH50) - Will It Run?

Picked up this 1989 Yamaha Razz. It hasn't been off the road for about 10 years!! We do a complete tune-up on this Yamaha scooter and fix the flat rear tire! Let me know if you have any questions!

I bought a 99 razz a couple months ago for 200 bucks and all I had to do was charge the battery and clean the carb they are slow as hell but feel fast because of how small it is , hope you have fun, just a heads up don't drive in the rain its not fun

Benjamin Goodstone ya they are slow haha but I heard you can remove a little spacer in where the belt is and it will pickup 5ish mph? I might try it! But ya they are pretty bulletproof little scooters!

I have a Chinese 2 stroke scooter that was running perfect when I bought it, then out of nowhere started leaking oil, and smoking heavily. Cleaned the carb and disconnected the oil reservoir, how do you set it up to run premix??

Chances are is just the bulb is burned out. Should just be a couple philips screws to pop the covers off then push in and twist the bulbs out👍🏼

I need help i have a 1989 yamaha jog 50cc basically the same scooter but the European version the engine is spinning over but Is filling up with 2 stroke oil and wont start any tips ?

Common problem. Remove the line from the oil tank to the oil pump. Cap off oil pump. Drain the gas and run premix gas. 40:1 ratio. (3.2oz of two stroke oil to 1 gallon of gas). I run premix on almost all of my scooters, then i know the bike is always getting the correct ratio. Best of luck👍🏼

My 1996 Razz only goes 27 MPH. There is no restrictor on the variator and not sure how I'd get it to go faster? Its a chain drive and have to drain the oil before pulling off the cover.

If it’s chain drive there’s probably not way to make it go faster unfortunately

@@Mechanic_kid unfortunately I think you are right. I couldn’t find a washer restrictor? It feels like it wants to go faster. Any thoughts. 30-35 would be ideal. I ve replaced spark plug and adjusted carb with no luck.

@@carysewall932 i think the washer restrictor is only on the varitated models (belt). Your only option is probably to get a larger carburetor and a better exhaust pipe. Might be cheaper to just find a fast scooter. Honda aero 80 I really like! Goes 40 easy. You could give scooter swap shop a call and ask if they have any ideas. They know a lot more about scooters than I do👍🏼

I have an 87 and I would only start if I spray starting fluid it was sitting for over a year and now it won't stay running , and it also was smoking I got it for 200 bucks at an auction it was the first vehicle me and my wife bought together I'd like to get it running but I haven't been able to

Not getting fuel! You need to clean the carburetor.. very easy! Take it apart, take out all the jets and spray carb clean through them. Put it back together and should run perfect. Now a days when you let a scooter sit for more than a couple months, the fuel cloggs up the carburetor and it won’t run right. Hope this helps you out👍🏼

Hey Bud ! I have a razz and spree i got in a trade. My question about the razz . did you ever get into pulling off that washer off the variator? I read something online also and i was wondering if it was a thing or just something posted to troll everyone , Thanks Bud!

I believe it is true! I think it makes the variator be able to move a little more, resulting in the belt going higher up which would give you more top speed. I am not 100% tho. If I still had the scooter I would do a video and test it out for you. Sorry hope this helps👍🏼

@@Thats_Bogus oh you might be correct! I guess I just assumed it’s belt driven like the spree and elite. If it’s chain driven I don’t think removing a washer would do anything.

Razz doesn't have a variator you can adjust the clutch on them it sucks

It’s like 25mph I think. But with some after market parts and tuning could get probably 30-35out of it

@@Mechanic_kid These are a ton of fun! I recently purchased a '92 from the original owner who used it almost exclusively in campgrounds. Less than 800 miles on it! I guarantee he didn't modify it and I'm getting GPS verified 35 on a downhill grade, I weigh about 150. I'll have to get some videos of it posted. I've owned a few Expresses in the past that admittedly weren't in great shape, but this accelerates so much harder than they did.
