This was Texas's flash in the pan season. They beat Houston, they FINALLY beat A&M after losing 6 straight times to them since 1984. This really was their one great year until 1995. After that A&M would dominate them for 4 straight more times.

Love rewatching these old games. If I recall correctly this was kind of the beginning of the end for Houston. Lots of payback in store for them in the next few years. I don't think they were the same after this.

@Rexag Yeah the run and shoot it was called. It was gimmicky, defenses figured it out and then you just didn't see it anymore.

Seems one year they swept the conference with that offense nobody figured how to defend and the next year... it was a pick 6 dream.

@Rexag Yep they did. Purdue tried to use it in the Big Ten for 2 years, it was a total disaster. In a game against Iowa they had like -70 something rush yards because of all the sacks and they'd get thrown for losses if they did try to run.

Gotta say...radio or television ...there was not a better play-by-play man in college football than the incomparable Ron Franklin...i know how his career ended and Jimmy craps out corn and i do NOT care!....

@@igorslocks His way of describing each play as it unfolded was as rich and descriptive as any announcer...and his flow...his cadence ..and voice timbre...was second to none...

@@brettrobinson2901 especially cadence & voice timbre was so awesome. What he said to Holly Rowe wasn't even that bad at all ffs. Jeneanne Edwards, ok they'll bitch about that but IMO no reason to punish all the viewers by not seeing/hearing him ever again. Because what Edwards adds to the telecast & what Ron Franklin added were light years apart. I mean really, the viewers were who got punished, we should have been polled to see what was the proper rectification of the issue. Anyway, RIP to Ron Franklin, definitely top3 announcer in Igor's book 🐕🏈
