I've let my old 4wd go until it's literally falling apart. It needs exhaust work, fuel issues, transmission issues and a death wobble out of this world. Let's see if we can get back in shape.

It's possible using the switch system is what caused that solenoid to lock up. When you don't have some current limiting or flyback diodes, opening the switch causes the magnetic field to collapse and it can heat up the solenoid. Do that enough and add hot trans fluid, the plastic can deform. If you put some 1N4001 diodes across those switches, it may help with the flyback current. The computer is using mosfets/transistors to drive the solenoids normally so they have that protection in the control circuit. This is just my theory though. Keep it in mind if you run into this again.

It's not being switched enough for back emf to cause an issue other than maybe arcing on the switch contacts. It definitely ain't heating it up more than the trans fluid.

Ideas for new merch that would be cool addition IMO. 1. Gaskaline- have a photo of an old military style gas can and the word gaskaline on top 2. Earl- have a photo of an oil dip stick tube with oil dripping from it and the wording " "check your earl" 3. Carbaroster- have a photo of an old quadrajet carb or any carb with the word "carbaroster" with a dictionary style meaning 4. I don't know- have a cartoon style of yourself doing the 🤷 and with the words "I don't know".

I've had quite a few of those trucks. Typically it's a combination of all of the parts being loose. Control arm bushings like to fall apart as well on the uppers. Detroit axle makes a kit to replace pretty much everything on the front end. I've ordered a few of them from Amazon.

You could also test the solenoid by energizing it then sticking a screwdriver near it then feel for the magnetic field. Aside from checking power and ground that usually seems to work pretty well

Just make sure you cover area to be cutting with spark shield safety precaution! Also measure twice cut once. on my 88 Scottsdale. Coming from a life of front-end work I would suggest jacking the truck up from the cross member under the motor floating both tires and checking for looseness, it can show itself a lot better that way, I hope this helps. Great video, I like the way you never give up!!!!

Had to do a fuel pump on my OBS. Dropping the tank nor the tank interested me not as it's team solo most of the times. I loosened the passenger bolts to half nut thread then removed driver side. Slid a scissor jack in between frame and bed on driver's side then lifted it up to gain access to pump. Have done that method a couple times since so. Blessings and respect to the grind and hustle!

Unfortunately the front end will have to have all bad parts replaced. I just rebuilt the entire front end on my 97 Z71. Everything was bad! I even replaced the bushings on the lower control arms they were mostly dust. Anyway once the bad parts are replaced and the tires are balanced that front end wobble should be gone. Go to a wrecking yard and buy one of those plastic bed liners. Then you can cut holes in the bed. Once work is done toss the bed liner in there and holes are hidden. New subscriber here. Take care.

love these tbi trucks, i have an 89 and a 92. they sell on ebay a stiffer fuel pressure regulator spring to bump fuel pressure up to 14 ish and it really is noticable on the ol 350. pretty dang impressive that was the original fuel pump. I'd take a light switch 4l80e setup over my 700r4's any day. the 700s are hard to get set up perfect and just have weak lockup. my 92 has a switch on the dash for lockup i put in. it would just come out of lockup randomly going down the road. changed the brake switch, tv cable adjustment, tried 3 different governors, replaced the solenoid, an all that jazz. had the trans straight wired to have lockup come on as soon as it shifted 4th and it sucked on the highway having to drop to third to pass. toggle switch an be done haha. keep up the vids man cant wait to see more on this ol truck

I loved my 96' 4×4 Z71 Silvy! Had the factory front-end skid plate which saved me twice! Never had a single issue with it accept the tailgate had the cables instead of the bars to hold it open, and the tail light on the driverside was out when I bought it. The fix for that is the circuit board goes bad on 94-98 bodys. Get a whole new board from Rock Auto, or a junkyard.

You can eliminate the electronic part of the trans if you want but you will need to shift up and down manually OR you can buy a standalone transmission controller so you have a few options. The 4l80 is a very good transmission. It's basically a th400 with overdrive. They have the same gear ratio and both share alot of the same parts.

I hope you put one of those Chevy engines in the Ford Station wagon. Don't mess with rusted Ford stuff. The engine and transmission from Lock jaw would be perfect. I know you have plans for Lockjaw and don't want to see it go but the scrap money from the Ford engine and trans plus the scrap from lock jaw would help a lot to pay for the project. Or just build one of the engines you just got and find a transmission. Put a Chevy in that Ford!! Looking forward to the FoChevy.

I cut a hole in my bed on my early 94 Chevy Silverado extended cab short bed Z71, but the reason is the outer edge of the wheel wells seems like the only rust from the outside of the bed, but the inner bedside is ate through on both sides of the bed, factory bed liner and was a farm truck used only for pulling trailers hopper wagons and hay wagons lol, and they burnt up the 4L60E transmission so it had a Th700r4 from a 1990 k2500 with a 350tbi, but the transmission quit,it had first and second now it has nothing not even reverse and the transmission pan has a lot of metal ground clutch material and it stinks so I think it is junk and I would guess the clutch packs are smoked, and the transmission fluid is black
