My 2005 town and country chrisler has almost 500 miles and I still have it and it it still working perfect and it actually has a good big trunk not like this one and the seats go down the last row and the middle row just the front row seats doesn't fold down

We bought a ‘05 LWB T&C in late 2009. It had 98K on the clock. Currently sitting at 280K. Fortunately we live in an area where rust doesn’t kill cars. Normal parts have had to be replaced: radiator, alternator, water pump, belt tensioner, coil pack, control arms, steering rack, struts, shocks, brakes and tires several times, HVAC blend door actuators. But this it over the course of 14 years and 180,000 miles! . It has never let us down, never had to be towed. I’ve been able to do most work on this van myself. Parts are plentiful and cheap. It’s easily to work on. Videos all over KZbin showing how to fix most anything on the car. It’s comfortable. Even has a great turning circle for such a large bus. Just an incredible vehicle for simple family transportation.

I totally feel you, my grampa had one of these and as I was a kid. I always loved this car so much, it is elegant, fancy, nostalgic... I always begged my parents to buy one but they never did... Two months ago I accomplished my childhood dream aand bought myself a 2006 T&C with 120k miles on it in almost perfect conditions, the previous owner had it garaged and used it only for long distance family trips, so it was never abused and it was correctly serviced. Not to mention I live in Europe and the car was imported from America in 2008. I will receive my drivers licence in a week and can't wait to drive my childhood's car!!! My inner child is happy.

I worked for Chrysler for many years. The mini vans were one of Chryslers best vehicles. Now that being said, the 05 model was plagued with electrical issues. Lots of module updates for different issues. Having owned several from a 96 to the 05, I’ve loved them all. Extremely comfortable for long trips and get decent fuel mileage. I’ve got upwards of 24 mpg on the highway. The transmission is the weakest part of the vehicle. I wish they would have put more research into it. The ac leaves something to do desired as well. I find myself having to use the recirculation during really hot days. But then again, look how much space is in one of these. I’ve seen many of these come in with over 300k on them. This says something about them.

You've perfectly captured my attitude toward these cars. I grew up thinking these were the coolest and envied the people who owned them. Power sliding doors? Built in TVs? Our 2000 base model Grand Caravan didn't have those. Having jumped from that to the generation after this one, while we never owned one of these, I will always have a soft spot for them. I'm not ashamed to admit I still get excited when I see one of these on the road, and while most of them might be rusted to oblivion, they're still trucking (vanning??). It's also worth admitting that the 3.3 and 3.8 V6 engines are some of the most reliable that Chrysler has ever put out :) Our current van has the 3.3 and has never left us stranded in the almost 13 years and 160,000 miles we've thrown at it. Love these cars.

Yes Zac, minivans are fantastic. Honestly, the only other vehicles that are as well thought out with special features are personal limos like an S class. That's one of the reasons I love them so much. My 2011 Sienna Swagger wagon can hold 5 people comfortably, a full size pallet fits in the back and there is still room back there for luggage, all at the same time, and on the highway, I could still be rocking 20 mpg. Not many other vehicles can really do that.

The Short wheelbase Town And Country came out in 05 and replaced the Voyager as the base model of Chrysler minivans. There was a 4cyl engine available in earlier ones 2001-2004. It was only available on the Short wheelbase Caravan and Voyager models. The 3.3 was actually a pretty decent engine..I see so many of these old 4th gen Chrysler minivans around still. Honestly iv always liked them..minivans are way more practical in my opinion compared to suvs. I moved my whole apartment using my grandma's old 2002 Town & Country. I do miss that van at times. Anyway..great review as always Zack!

In 1990 my father purchased a new Town and Country van. That was the first year for the van being sold with the Town and Country name. It was a good reliable luxury hauler which was in the family until my father's passing in 2007. My mother wanted to replace it with something smaller so I found a 2006 Ford Focus which has also been reliable. It's the car I'm still using today.

My grandparents bought one of these new in that great Chrysler blue with a blue cloth interior. It was a higher-mid-trim model with the four Indiglo gauges that Chrysler put in their high-trim vehicles. As a kid the remote power doors and tailgate blew my mind. Ours didn't do the hazard lights thing. The rear climate control was cool too even though it didn't do much besides make noise. It had the Chrysler information center on the roof center console that would tell fuel economy and temperature/compass and if a door was open and could program settings. The center console could be lifted out and put between the back captains' chairs. Theirs was an early 4th gen and they traded it in '08 for a newer and more luxurious 5th gen Town & Country in preparation for a big road trip. I still see these regularly, almost always rusted out with body parts flapping in the wind. These things will run poorly forever without actually dying. They're some of the biggest POSes but they're wheels for some people. One of my state's senators bought one new and drove it almost 500k miles before trading it for a Tesla a year or two ago. The A/C didn't work but otherwise it looked almost new. My state's only 100 miles by 30 miles at its widest so that's a lot of running up and down the state. He had money, he just liked his Town & Country. There's a hilarious picture of him chilling shirtless at a gas station filling it up. I don't know what happened to it, if he kept it as some museum piece or if it's been scrapped.

ah yes, i grew up with one of these. it’s actually my daily these days. ‘02 T+C with over 250k miles, it just keeps going and refuses to die. something nobody expects from a chrysler product. it did have an issue with a cracked cylinder head at some point, but i took it upon myself to replace it. actually very rewarding result in the end. i’m gonna keep driving it until it dies.

07 t&c owner here, picked up ours in Nov. Of 2020 for $1200 with 100k on the clock, had the mechanic put a new ac compressor, coolent line, and oil pan in it, as well as new bf Goodrich rubber, and switched to Mobil 1, now sitting at 166,000, have the typical rust issues ( Michigan) but this thing is so comfortable, reliable and cheap to operate, I'm just gonna keep it going until the wheels fall off and then look for another one out west or something and bring it back and repeat the whole thing again.

We have a 2005 , other then brakes , tires and an alternator its been amazing ! Were almost to 200,000 miles and it still runs great . It doesnt use much oil either and has plenty of power. A little hard on gas around town though. lol

My dad bought a dark blue t&c back in 05. Did well hauling us around. I still remember my mom would shift it into low gear to get out of the snow banks when I miss the bus. My cousin bought the car from us when he went to college in WV one trip hauling all his stuff but he went on to wrap it around a tree. he lived but the van was totaled.

This generation of van should be added to the list of recommended vehicles for people on a tight budget. The 3.3 liter V6 is reliable in a comparable level to the 3800 GM and Ford 4.6. I've seen lots of these with high miles with very few problems. The weakness is usually the transmission which as long as you do the fluid changes using Chrysler spec ATF plus 4 and don't abuse it, they usually will run a pretty good life. If Chrysler would have used the 3.3 in the Stratus, the second gen intrepids, the first gen chargers, and their sister division models instead of the sludging 2.7, Chrysler's reputation would probably not be quite as bad.

I’m in an ‘03 T&C 3.3L v6 (197,000mi) I purchased for $500(Yah’s many blessings.) and it’s a very useful vehicle. The reason it was so cheep was a bad crank position sensor(between the transmission bell housing and firewall don’t wast time angle diegrind the old one out.). They drive well in snow and are fairly high off the ground. Take the back seats out throw in a bed and use as a stealthy RV and save money on vacation/trips. TIP: Make sure battery cables are fresh as bad voltage knocks out vans computer(yes new computers discontinued but companies rebuild your old one). Enjoy.

Yep, I grew up in this thing. Our first family car was a 1999 Plymouth Voyager with only one sliding door, but then this came after it. We had a 2006 model year. I would really like to see a review of a 1996-2000 Chrysler van, I would be full of nostalgia. I've always felt at home in Chrysler minivans, they're just always what I know.

My grandma had the base model of one of these, I honestly didn't like riding in it in the summer as there was no vents in the back (I'm assuming higher end models had them) and the windows couldn't even go down, it would get pretty hot.

I remember driving a few Grand Voyagers (what they were based as here in Australia), it drove great for it's wize and what it was, but damn those V6s were stupidly underpowered for a vehicle of the size, not to mention they drunk significantly more than they should have (we never had the 3.8, I could imagine it would have been better in both aspects)

I grew up in a 98 Plymouth Voyager, and later got an 01 Caravan as my first car. The Voyager always had overheating problems and seemed unreliable for my parents. Though my Caravan with the 2.4l and 3AT was always pretty reliable for its 245k mile life, apart from normal things breaking which I was too cheap to fix.

Yeah these Chryslers/dodges with the 3.3/3.8 are so reliable like you said. The 3.3 and 3.8 is probably the best and only good engine that Chysler had in that Era before it was replaced with that stupid inferior pentastar engine hense why I want to buy my aunts. When it was with us for 6 or 7 years it never had any issues. I remember the day we first got it and I was so hype over this minivan. It was just, ugh. This video put me in a slightly better mood then I was earlier.

I drive a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country Touring (Got it from my grandma) I noticed lots of little differences between the 2 I have the 3.8L V6 version I have a tachometer which means i have 4 circles with 4 needles The front end looks a little different I have no rust issues surprisingly I have more miles at over 230,000 (I think, im blanking on the specifics but its somewhere around there) My radio has the balance and fade knobs and the bass and treble sliders And it has the tape slot In the middle where this one just says "Climate Control" I have individual sliders for driver and passenger heating and cooling And the climate control knobs are Fan Speed, Rear Fan Speed, and Fan Mode I have the automatic driver seat and the automatic rear passenger doors (one is broken) and the automatic rear hatch There are a lot more differences i noticed, but i have ran out of time to list them hahaha

I don't think we got the Town and Country as a SWB in Canada. At least I've never seen one. Every T&C i saw in this era was leather loaded DVD sunroof everything. In Mexico we rented a Chrysler Voyager that looked just like this but it had literally no options. No power locks and roll up windows. You had to open the tailgate with the igniton key.

Chrysler Town and Countrys are easy to maintain, parts arent expensive. And as i have foundout TCs are easy to rebuild as i have had to relpace the engine in mine after i let it run out of oil and it locked up on me on the highway. The van went back together so easy after i put a lower milage engine back in. The 3.3 V6 is so simple and reliable i just wish i could get a different camshaft and get it tuned but it will rev to 6500rpms and go 110mph. I drive my TC everywhere and its hitting over 270000miles on the odometer.

we never had a short wheel base option let alone plastic hub caps on Town and Country here in Canada. This spec always makes me scratch my head... its a base model dodge caravan. i wonder what the price difference was between this and a caravan back in the day - i can only assume whoever bought this new just couldnt sleep at night without fake wood in their minivan lol.

I personally think they are of a beautiful design, streamlines=d, fun to drive! I would rather they have frames because having it serviced is a problem because they jack them up as if they had a frame and crush the rails, then you can't jack them up with the jack to change the tire! And most of all, they are rust buckets! It is rare to see one where the bottom is not rusted out.It is their weakness due to poor design in that respect!

My aunt has a 2004 model before and I think Its the top of the line I dont know what trim it is but it has leather, power everything(sliding doors & tailgate). She just sold it years later because its not reliable(mostly electrical issues) and the resale value is really bad. She replaced it with a 2013 Toyota sienna which she still owns.

Hello, I'm a happy ex- Dodge Caravan owner here to give you the info. Yes, up until the fourth generation (01-07), the Town and Country was the top of the line, with many comfort and convenience features/ options. It used to be that Dodge was the lowest trim level, Plymouth was middle, and Chrystler was top. Then, when the Plymouth division was shut down, The Town and Country was designated to pick up the midlevel option/trim model Minivan, but Chrystler Minivans could also could be optioned as to the top level too. So, from 2001 on, the Town and Country could be bought in a more basic version than any previous Town and Country.

Chryslers, for me, have been hit or miss. And I’ve had several in various forms. Some were good, others were pieces of s**t! Our ‘97 Plymouth Grand Voyager was so much better equipped than this Chrysler, ironically.

I remember these. So we have two minivans at the time of purchase (new). An 01' Odyssey EX and a 07' Base T&C. I can tell you that the difference in quality was night and day comparing it to the more premium Honda. The chassis on these were horrible. Leaf springs and a live axle compared to the double wishbone fully independent rear suspension in the Odyssey. I swear, your passengers get sick riding around these things, especially the tire roar which was very deafening at freeway speeds. The middle seats are bench seats not captain chairs. The third row doesn't fold flat, instead you gotta rip out the seats entirely. If you used this as a utility van this is perfect. Except the fact that anyone can break into these since the base doesn't have any alarms. I think a lot of dealerships knew these Bases were absolute dog water. We got ours new in 2007 for

Chryslers are not usually reliable. Newer ones after Fiat bought Chrysler may be less reliable. Toyotas are much more reliable. Chrysler is the only American automaker that still makes minivans. The other 3 are Toyota, Honda and Kia. Now with crossovers/SUVs, minivans have become less popular. 2023 will mark 40 years since Chrysler first introduced the minivan. It came out in 1983 for the 1984 model year. My father had a '96 Caravan
