I remember this series specifically James Worthy with the clutch steal and break away slam. For context, Kareem was retired, but this was an excellent Lakers team that played well in the regular season and won this series. They would shockingly fall apart in the next round against Phoenix. In the following season they would part with Coach Riley, Michael Cooper, and Orlando Woolridge. They would bring in Mike Donleavy as coach and add Terry Teagle and Worthy;s college buddy Sam Perkins. That team would make the finals in 1991 but lose to the Bulls.

Kareem played in the 90's? I didn't see him in this game. I thought he retired in 89.

This was a good Rockets team; the Lakers ended up going to Houston after this game, losing Gm.#3 and winning #4, beating the Rockets 3-1 for the series. Then, they get beat by Phoenix in 5 games in the WCSF's. Lakers won 3 of the 4 gms with Pheonix during the regular season, only losing a 121-119 OT thriller in Pheonix. The Lakers led the NBA in '89-'90 with 63-wins! Their season that year was/is an instructive and teachable example of how the playoffs are a completely different animal than the regular season? The bottom can fall-out at any time! Whether it's from the regular season to the playoffs or from series-to-series!

@@edkiely2712 I agree. Kind of surprising how the series with the Suns turned out. It indeed goes to show you regular season and playoffs are totally different, agreed.

Shows you the depth of talent at the NBA at that time. The Rockets were an 8th seed, yet had a roster of 2 all stars in Thorpe and Floyd, a prime HOF in Olajuwon with Maxwell and Johnson.

Laker fans. Did you like going to games in The Forum, or Staples Center better? Just curious.

The Fabulous Forum before they changed it to The Great Western Forum.
@susanstamboulian646Ай бұрын
@@Ryenobal I'm a Celtics fan, but went to a Lakers game vs. Phoenix in 2004, because I wanted to see Shaq and Kobe play in person. Staples was beautiful, but I was so pissed. Kobe, Shaq and Karl Malone all sat out resting. That's why I'm so against this load management, it cheats the fans. I spent a lot of money for tickets, a hotel and drove 400 miles. The only star that played was Gary Payton, well past his prime. Derick Fisher had a last second shot to win the game, but missed, and the Lakers lost by 1. The result surely didn't upset me, but all those guys sitting out sure did. Yeah, the Great Western Forum was a lame name. Like the "TD Garden, formerly The Fleet Center". It was best when it was The Boston Garden and The Fabulous Forum! I used to love to hear PA Announcer, Lawrence Tanter say, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to The Faaaaaabulous Forum, in Inglewood, California". Ahh, the good old days. Thank you for the response, Sir.
