1990 John Deere 420 Walk-around And Mowing

Here’s my somewhat new to me 1990 John Deere 420. I’ve owned a few other 420s in the past year. I purchased another 1990 model from my buddy Jeff and ended up doing a partial trade of that one for this tractor. This one does not have the original engine as I believe the valve seats went south in it. The 60” deck seems to cut pretty well.

My family had one at their summer property for several years before getting a JD 455. They own a chain of John Deere dealerships in South Florida. My uncle even had the Diesel counterpart to the 420(the 430) at his Florida home for many years.

I am currently looking for a 420 with the later P220 engine, no hurry, but since I let one go, I've been wanting another. The one I had was an '83 with a replacement P220 from 1996 so said the serial on the engine. It ran great an but felt I had to sell it sooner than I should have. They are great tractors. I love the big power and capability. I owned a 430 too, but prefer the 420. Although I accepted the long snout on the 430, I never felt like it was proportioned very well. Yours is agreat looking and well maintained unit, very nice.

Did u cut the chute on the deck or previous owner thinking bout cutting mine down

It’s a later style 60 with the detachable discharge chute.
