I started to tear down a 1984 70HP yesterday and the top cylinder looked almost identical to that one. I'm getting ready to finish tearing it down to determine whether or not I can reuse the existing powerhead or need a replacement. Powerheads are pretty slim pickins for my motor by the looks of ebay though unfortunately. Thanks for the video Brandon

Hey Brandon, I really like your videos! No nonsense, straight to the point. I have a 1988 48 hp Johnson that I just got. I did a compression test just now and It's 135psi on the top cylinder and 90 psi on the bottom cylinder. Not a great result. The engine does run but not that great at low rpm, terrible at mid rpm, but seems to open up at the high rpm. What would your recommendation be? Worth rebuilding the engine? Maybe it's just the head gasket?

200 bucks for spare parts is not bad for restoring other motors. Some people dont know how to keep their motors in good shape. Too bad the guy didn't tell you it was broken up front. Made a good video though so not a total loss

I want to buy a frozen1987 70hp Evinrude lower unit gear that had water leak in case . I have a honing blaster to clean it up. What should I offer to pay for this frozen gear case?

Are these engines 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

The old clunkers I play with are 2 strokes. Evinrude does make 4 strokes however.

How did you remove the cover?
