Miami had all they could handle that day against a tough undermanned Aztec squad. The Aztecs were not going to be intimidated by Miami’s reputation and stood up to them for 60 minutes! The Aztecs were in a few brawls in the early 90s; the most interesting was against Fresno State when a fight escalated into some helmet swinging which revoked a player’s scholarship! Dan McGuire’s incredible effort on the conversion right before the brawl sealed his high draft status in the NFL; Russell Maryland stated later he couldn’t believe McGuire completed the play successfully! Too bad the San Diego Chicken couldn’t have played; he would have shown the Hurricanes something!

happened to be in San Diego visiting a friend when we decided to go to this game along with several other people, since it was last minute and nowhere near a sellout, tickets were next to nothing and was pretty much open seating. What a treat we got, a highly overmatched SDSU (unranked) gave #3 Miami all they could handle. If I remember correctly, there was 2 or 3 team bench clearing brawls along with numerous fights in the stands. We were up in the nosebleed seats all alone...the 8 of us even got on TV doing a ridiculous 8 person wave! Alcohol is such a great inhibitor lol If not for 3 missed FG's...SDSU wins the game
