Thank you for posting this!!! I've been trying to find it on KZbin forever. This was the clip that introduced me to the name "Tony Hawk" when I was a kid, which was a significant memory as skating became a huge part of my life later on, starting in 1995. The brief clip of Tony riding horizontally on the walls of the bowl is what especially blew my mind as a kid. I remember trying to describe it to my best friend, unable to put it into words ...

I will say this one of the most under rated things that I don't really appreciate that tony does is his board spins where he kicks it out while doin an Ariel and spins it and flips it and catches it and beautifully and nicely put it back perfectly under his feet,those tricks are bad ass when u slow them down just enuf to really see them good,wow,if you think there easy try one,its like a combo in pool,most times 90 % they never hit the second ball...chow thanks

If you look at the 720s Tony spun back in the eighties he could have landed it so much earlier than '99. They were so fast and often with so little air. Makes you wonder why it did take people so long till it was finally landed. I guess the 900 is just a LOT scarier to pull off than anyone of us can imagine.

I think the pioneers of skating had skills beyond their equipments abilities lol. Look at the “mini” boards from the late 80’s and early 90’s…lol comical now looking back at them 😎 thrashing up the 80’s and 90’s!!

I think with the 720 it looks like you are kind of up and over your board. With the 900, it looks like you are kind of blind and vulnerable for a second on the vital 2nd spin. I think he said he was trying it earlier than '99 but he cracked his rib and was too spooked to mess with anymore. So yeah, you are right, he probably could have done it before.
