Here's a rule some might not know, when Dick Stockton promoted Game 2 of the Doubleheader, that game couldn't air in the Twin Cities. Before 2000, when the local team was at home you only got 1 game on each network regardless of who had the Doubleheader. So that day we only got the Vikings vs. 49ers for the only CBS game and Chargers-Raiders late on NBC. It probably would have been Packers-Broncos though instead of Lions-Seahawks, Packers pretty much always get priority when there's no Vikings conflict.

What a great Niner team. I was convinced they’d win their third straight, but the great Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, , and backup qb Jeff Hostetler put an end to that. Roger Craig committed the biggest turnover of his career and Matt Bahr kicked that winning FG. Great channel!

They played 49ers twice that season and only managed 18 combined points in two games, 49ers defence was a wall but they lost because of the Marshall hit on Montana which was ruthless and Craig fumble which don’t get me started as it still is WTF moment

I had a feeling if they kept stumbling around like they did much of the season they would finally fall. Having said that, I know if they had gotten past the Giants they would have beaten the Bills in a close, but still less “squeaky” victory than the Giants did.

I just didn't see the 89 and 90 Forty Niners as great, compared to some of the other campaigns. I was disappointed that they lost to the giants and the refs but I wasn't at all surprised. This game proves my point.

@jakevogel1505 But if one examines the Dynasty years, surely most would see the '84 as the "elite" having just one controversial regular season loss and holding Marino & Co. to just one TD in the championship. As far as favorites, mine is the '83 team because they were cheated out of homefield advantage throughout the playoffs and were ripped off in the NFCC, and I believe they should've and would have won the Championship that year. The '89 campaign had two losses at the Stick to the Rams and the Packers... that's not too good.

@@kidmack3556 The 1983 49ers team lost four games at home. The 49ers lost 4-5 games late in the year. The 1983 Washington Redskins lost two games by two points. The 1989 49ers team lost two games by five points. The 1989 49ers were unstoppable, dominating throughout the playoffs and the Super Bowl.
