No suspensions, no hydraulic disc brakes and all depended on wheels. The tires acted as suspension along with the rims as the part of the brake. It was totally the riders' skills. What a tremendous riders they were!

You are correct, you hit a rock garden on one of those old bikes, you would just pray, land wrong on front wheel, u are going down.
