As a Mets fan, this 1990 Reds team is vastly underrated. They held onto first place in the West from Opening day till Closing day. They had a mix of good power, speed and that bullpen was scary and won a lot of games for them. Plus Pinella was IMO a great manager.

My man Eric The Red was never the same after lacerating his kidney in this game. I remember crying when he had to come out of the game. Did you know Marge Schott was so tight that Davis had to pay for his own plane ticket back home? He was still in the hospital when the team went home to Cincinnati. But that was #44. He went ALL OUT ALL THE TIME! While no one thought the Redlegs could beat Stewart even once, they beat him twice and ED's first inning bomb in game 1 set the tone. You were the best kid!

Oakland was the better team and I don't think it's even debatable, the Reds just outplayed them. Other than R. Henderson no one showed up offensively for the A's. Stewart was shaky in game 1 but excellent in game 4 (9 IP 0 ER), Welch was very good in game 2 (after giving up 2 runs in the 1st shut the Reds down to the 8th until Canseco played Hatcher's flyball into a 3B).Cincinnati just played better, got contributions from more players (E. Davis, Hatcher, Sabo, Larkin) and Rijo and the bullpen (Myers, Dibble & Charlton) were excellent.

20 years and 5 World Series Championships later, it was "All in the Past" for George Steinbrenner who has done an excellent job reshaping the Yankees after 1990 picking up Players like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and Mariano Rivera along with getting a Mild Mannered Winning Manager in Joe Torre. GOD REST HIS SOUL! - COMING FROM A RED SOX FAN!

I still remember this as being one of the biggest upsets to me in the WS in my lifetime. Maybe Arizona in 2000...

*2001 actually. 2000 was the "Subway Series" between the Yankees and Mets.
