@@jimmythedrum446 Social Media has its uses, but sadly it also removes the mystery of things. As kids in the 80s and 90s, we would get all of our info drip-fed through ads like these instead of having it all available at our fingertips 24/7. I miss the simpler times too, chief.

Jase 87 His trombone wasn’t quite as bad as the “Go Compare” ads, I liked it. He was funny when he kicked a strawberry on the table and limped a bit. Wifey and me were on the Isle of Skye that year and saw a sign for strawberries and we both said “oh look, Kick your own strawberries!” at the same time. Luckily, we were in the car and not on a bus or people would have knew/thought we were mad lol.

@@stephenrochester6309 Cellnet was a joint venture owned by BT and Securicor (Group 4 Security). BT bought out Securicor and rebranded as "BT Cellnet" around 1996. The company was later rebranded to O2 around 2002. O2 was sold by BT to Telefónica around 2006. In other news, EE was formed when Orange and T-Mobile merged. BT later bought EE, which left only 4 mobile networks in the UK. O2 and Three attempted to merge in 2016, but this was blocked by the Competition Authority as it was deemed that the O2/Three merger would stifle market competition and consumers would suffer... Watching the Cellnet advert, it's kinda weird to think that mobile phones were a thing as early as 1990. I remember them existing, I remember them being desirable. But the price of both the unit and then the tariff was just way out of the league of affordability for the average person or family. It was all about the Yuppies and the business person. Joe Bloggs and Jane Doe weren't marketed at, just look at the type of person they were aiming for in this particular advert. Compare the mobile phone scene of 1990 to that of today. It's certainly been one of the biggest communication booms in history. Not owning a mobile now is like not having running water, it's almost unthinkable. And look at where the costs are, you can pick up basic handsets for a tenner and get unlimited calls for £1.50p a week. If prices were like that in 1990, I know where my pocket money would have immediately gone. Crazy stuff, how affordable it has become. Kids of today will never know.
