Requested- But sadly there was no 3rd Qtr in this copy when a good amount of the scoring takes place. I can always add it in later if another copy shows up.

This was my senior year of high school. It's so cool to watch these games and see all of those great players again. So many of these guys had very good nfl careers. Then there's Rusty.

I think most people viewed this game as Miami taking care of business - a six point win at home against a good team. This Penn State team came in with a road loss to a mediocre USC team, or this game might have had a little more luster to it. But if you look at how Penn State finished - 11-2 with a 35-13 win over Notre Dame and a 42-17 win over Tennessee in the Fiesta Bowl, then this win looks a little bigger than it did at the time. Big win for the Canes on their way to another National Championship.

1991 PSU was very highly ranked and regarded but had O-Line issues early in season. They were playing as well as anybody by the end of the season.

It would have been much more entertaining watching a rematch of this in the Fiesta Bowl rather than watching Miami play a snooze fest in the Orange against a much slower Nebraska on Miami's home field. On a neutral site Penn State was probably good enough to beat the Canes.
@tmarsh0307

@@mrog5481 Absolutely. If they were able to have gotten it done vs USC, then that game could very well have happened. Miami should have played Florida in the Sugar Bowl, which would have happened had the Bowl Coalition been in place.

I was at this game. My seats were basically behind the Miami bench( think it was row 8 or 9 on the 20 or 30 yd line) the seats were awful because you couldn't really see as the players stood on the benches . It felt like it was 100 degrees and to top it off I had some type of infection and had a fever ,I was on antibiotics that said stay out of direct sunlight! Oh well as miserable as that day was..we won and it was better than a great day at work😁

This is such a random thing that popped into my head, I distinctly remembered Sacca lofting one into the end one at the end of a PSU Miami game at the end of the game, where PSU had a chance. I was 15 or 16 when the game happened, and I "remembered" it going in the other direction and had no recollection of it being an obvious saftey with a botched call at the end. I thought it fell incomplete in the end zone to end it. It was very cool to be able to see it and correct my faulty memories, thanks for posting this!

How is it a safety? The ball was carried to the 1/2 yard line with forward progress. Miami ball on the 1/2 yard line

@@mrflyazz9605 That goes out the window once the defender voluntarily brings it back out of the end zone and is tackled back in the end zone. It should have been a safety.

Crazy at it sounds, I do believe this was the first time Keith Jackson had ever done a Miami Hurricanes game at the Orange Bowl. ABC only had the rights to Miami home games from 1991-95. He called this one and the "Wide Right II" game there the following year. He did a lot of their road games though.

I know Keith Jackson called two Miami games in 1981 season at the Orange Bowl - vs Penn State (W 17-14) and vs Notre Dame (W 37-15).

Almost every time I watch a game from the Dennis Erickson Era it's full of undisciplined play, missed tackles, players not understanding the rules, ( bonehead play) and dropped passes. Yet this "Ass Clown" won two Natty's. Smh
