Pole for the 600 and the halfway money (10 grand) were about the only things during the World 600 week that Davey Allison didn't win. As they said, the weekend before he won $325,000 when he won pole for The Winston, led at the halfway of that race and went on to win. Then of course he won this race. Allison and that Robert Yates Ford Thunderbird were almost untouchable at Charlotte that month.

At 38 minutes 15 seconds baby Allison passes Earnhardt off of 4 and leads the lap and walks away from him we would have been seeing that so much more if Davey would have lived rip Davey

Ya know they had mentioned the condos, and I thought of Bobby sitting up there cause he knew his time was over and he wanted to watch his boy from the best seat in the house. FFS man what a heartbreaking thought of him sitting there. Why the hell did he have to get into that stupid helicopter.

I know it’s obvious but watching these old races back makes me realize Neil was an amazing broadcaster
@mikeyoungblood1642 Жыл бұрын
Still it makes ya sad because he could have retired after he came back in 1993 and crashed out of the Talladega race…he just couldn’t stay out of the car for good and it cost him his life and us a brilliant long broadcasting career

@@mikeyoungblood1642 Winners was amazing too. I think he could have had a Benny Parsons like career if he had stayed broadcasting.

During the previous weeks All-Star race, the #11 Junior Johnson owned car was thrown out of the track b/c the engine was larger than the legal limit. Johnson, crew chief Tim Brewer & sub driver Tommy Ellis were suspended for 12 weeks. Ellis was subbing for Geoff Bodine who suffered an injury during practice for the All-Star race. All 3 parties appealed. Johnson's & Brewer's suspensions were reduced to 4 races & Ellis's was nullified. Johnson designated his wife as the owner & changed the car # to 97

The anthem was almost never covered until the FOX/NBC takeover of 2001. Only big races (Daytona 500, Brickyard 400) saw the anthem get sung live on television.

@prevost86865 жыл бұрын
It actually was decent until about 2005. Dale Sr. complained about NASCAR as far back as 1993 so picking the year of his death is disingenuous.

The decline started from 2006-08. Factors such as Cup drivers dominating the Xfinity Series to ESPN coming back with crappy commentary to the CoT being introduced. I have hope since Brian France’s arrest last year.

@superbird43513 жыл бұрын
James Gentry Yeah but they weren’t doing double duty every single week. Every Busch/Nationwide champion from 2006-2010 was a Cup regular. In 2013, not a single full time Nationwide drive actually won a race in the series and Ryan Blaney was the only non-Cup driver to win. My point is they absolutely flooded the series for about a decade.
