A full overlap rear crash test where the Uno was traveling at 90.5Km/h (56.2 Mph) into the rear of a police-spec 525d Touring.
Performed by www.agu.ch/ at www.dtc-ag.ch/
Analyzes basic biomechanics and crash repair costs.
Also puts a commercial-grade sorting tray to the test.
Dummy readings were not recorded for this particular test.
Repair costs for vehicles:
525d - 36'086.60 CHF
Uno - Not Estimated
Roughly translated from test report:
The Fiat was massively damaged on the front. The steering column has been completely compressed and shortened accordingly over the A-pillars. The displacement of the steering column was caused by the front axle / front wheels being moved backwards. The engine and gearbox, steering and suspension have also been deformed and moved back accordingly. All components / attachments such as bumpers, fenders, bonnet, doors, cross members, front panel, side members, wheel arches, A-pillars, roof, windscreen, side windows in front, etc. were deformed, compressed, or broken. The passenger compartment has collapsed. The vehicle became compressed up to the B-pillars, which also led to a significant narrowing of the interior for the driver and front passenger. A detailed cost compilation using a claims calculation program was waived (not purposeful, more obvious, not only economic, but technical total loss).

Despite the impact has been very violent, the cockpit does not seem to have deformed too much and the steering does not seem to have retreated dangerously. Excellent performance for an old car!

@Carlos Daniel man it's a stunning result for an 80s car. He is not saying it's a good result, he is saying that for a car designed in the 80s it's an excellent result. During EuroNCAP testings, newer cars performed A LOT worse, at 60 kmph! This test was performed at 90 kmph (!), and still the cockpit did not collapse, engine compartment was destroyed correctly and worked as a crumple zone, the roof did not collapse, and the chassis resisted!

Fiats crumple zone, despite old rusty small car, worked perfectly for 90 kph/50mph. I saw worse results at 50 kph/30mph LOL Engine compartment collapsed properly to absorb the energy, cabin is very strong for a design from 80s.

Look again. The passenger compartment collapsed completely. If there had been dummies inside, they would have to be cut out. No human would have survived this crash in the Fiat.

@@no1DdC Nevertheless it is 20+ years old car, with a massive corrosion, designed in early 80, speeding much faster than in standard tests. For me it endured excellently considering that facts. BTW. After 90 kph crash, you have ripped internal organs, due to gforces, massive internal bleedings so your knees or are the last of your problems and definitely you will be not able to go out, mostly because you will be unconscious... in the best case.

@@Dziki_z_Lasu Also, the sills & floor was rusty in the Fiat, in the UK that would never have been allowed on the road, as it would have failed it annual test. That said, I would expect to die if I crashed my Uno or Panda into a solid object at over 40kph...

@@xq3975 Car stopped on 1 meters from 90 kph. Count the g-forces and google what is happening to a human body with that value. Imagine yours brain beeing squeezed by a very fat sumo wrestler sitting on it - that's exactly what is happening to it, in such a situation.

Nice upload! Saw something similar happen on the autobahn. Nissan Micra smashed into the back of a Benz. Micra virtually exploded, Benz was still able to drive with even the taillights still working:)

the BMW's in general are quite sturdy,but this is not one of those cases! the Fiat uno absorbed all the negative force of this crash! as you can see,there's nothing left in front of the Fiat! now put an another E60 to rear-end this BMW,and see how bad it will do! again,I am a fan of the BMW,and yes,they're quite safe,but in all the cars nowadays(modern ones)rear-end is yet a problem,as it is the weakest point of a car!

@SteFro la serie 5 touring è in uso in molti dipartimenti di polizia europei e per l'appunto ci sarà un perché, è tostissima!!! E comunque a me a bassa velocità sempre da dietro mi arrivò un pick up con tanto di paraurti in ferro e mi fece semplicemente 2 segni sul paraurti che con 150 euro è ritornato come nuovo.

Guys, the 5 series is a huge car compared to that tiny Fiat and much much newer... Do the same test but with a 2019 500L and a 1991 3 series... Also it's a police grade vehicle, you don't know what modifications might have been done to the car.

Its not necessary. A ford fiesta 89 have more euroncap safety stars than a bmw 93 e36 in 1998 tests. E36 and class c of that year have only 2 stars and very bad safety reputation. An e36 samshing that touring e61 would do the same the tipo did.

Considering that this box project is actually from earlier 80s, it's deadly but, not bad as several models that came after it. There are cars from last 2 decades that would squish the front passengers like fruits to make juice.

Oui mais contre un mur à peine déformable. Ici même si l'arrière de la BMW est très rigide, elle est poussée en avant ce qui rend le choc beaucoup moins fort. Par contre la Fiat est pourrie par la corrosion, il y a même des trous dans le plancher.

UNO’s weren’t that great as new, I remember there was lots on the road and in collisions back in early 90s they folded just like paper, hitting the BMW must been like hitting a brick 🤭

The Uno was brilliant as new !! Way better than the Mini and the Metro for example, in production at that time, also better than others too. Also it was kinda outdated in the early 90s already. Same as the other two. But you're comparing apples to oranges. Not unusual for "car guys".

Das der Fiat platt ist wundert mich nicht.... War zu erwarten da es ein kleiner Wagen ist. Aber das der alte BMW so gut hält ist erstaunlich!!! Der E60 bzw E61 kam 2003 auf den Markt und ist somit 20 Jahre alt!!!! Knapp 1000 Kilo mit 90 Klamotten hinten drauf und der Wagen bleibt fahrbar... Nichtmal die Heckscheibe bricht .... Unglaublich 🎉🎉🎉

Thank you for uploading crash tests from DTC! Their own uploads are usually crap. :/ You should also try to get videos from Allianz (german insurance) or Dekra.

Thank you for your interest! AGU performs a good majority of their testing at DTC's facility, however, testing performed by AGU is usually low-speed research. (Usually under 40 Km/h). AGU has also done work with Allianz and Dekra/Winterthur in the past. Footage from either agency is extremely hard to come by and I have been trying to find a way to access the old Winterthur database that I was familiar with in the early 2000's.

Would of been more realitic to life if the handbrake was engaged on the bmw, by it not being braked it reduced the damage to the fiat as the kinetic was transferred to the forward motion of the bmw, the steering wheel in the fiat would have been touching the drivers seat if the bmw was braked or placed in park if a auto like when waiting at a red light

I'm glad to own both a Defender and an 850. Such great cars and you really feel safe. My little summer car however is a 1992 Suzuki Samurai. I don't feel as safe but it's definitely the most fun.

Doubt the test applies to other e61 wagons since law enforcement versions are built to withstand more abuse than the civilian models.

Eindrucksvoller Crashtest. Nur, erschließt sich mir der eigentliche Sinn nicht richtig. Der BMW war ziemlich neu, u. wie man sehen konnte der Fiat an der Bodengruppe (Schwellenbereich) z.Teil durchgerostet.

Thinking about a roll cage install in my uno since it belonged to my great grandfather and I treasure it and want to keep and use it daily...plus mine does 140km/h if u really push it so I think more safety measures in order

Mimo wszystko uważam że UNO przeszło zderzenie zadziwiająco dobrze, konstrukcja z początku lat 80-tych, cienkie blachy, bardzo mocno zardzewiały egzemplarz no i najistotniejsza sprawa... prędkość 90km/h gdzie normalnie testy NCAP są przy 50. Z przodu nie zostało nic ale to dobrze bo pochłoną tyle energii ile się dało, kabina zniekształcona ale wydawać by się mogło że jest nawet szansa na przeżycie takiego wypadku w UNO przy 90km/h

TBH that was not so bad for a 80s car with SO MUCH rust. Had that been a rust free Uno, in a 60Km/h crash, it probably would've fared even better.

Uno estava com sua já frágil estrutura bem comprometida pela ferrugem BMW estava ainda cheia de caixas metálicas no porta malas Não foi um teste justo. O uno se daria mal em qualquer cenário, mas este foi extremo .

You have More chances to survive not using a seatbelt just flying trought the windshield. In my country young people use this Fiat uno to race with More than 250 whp yes...whp More lighter More fast they Said...it Is a Shame

Doesn't really seem like they are collecting any data on the biometrics here even though "Analyze biometrics" was part of the stated purpose for the experiment. Was this task to difficult to achieve?
