Excellent and informative video. As someone else mentioned, there is no need to remove the three plug-ins on the left side that connects to the ECU, just the two plug-ins to the TCU, then remove the main mounting securing nuts and carefully withdraw the entire unit far enough to rotate it which provides access to the three mounting screws for the TCU. Once that is in hand you can easily repair or replace

Had same car same year same interior but EX 4 door sold it with 325,000 still running. I did all the maintenance on it, I know those cars from front to back. Both my daughters drove that car through high school. Had the same problem mine was jus the speed sensor. Wait till your door latch drive side breaks and your door doesn’t open. I strongly suggest you go ahead and replace that before that happens. Ask me how I know it was a pain in the ass to fix. One other recommendation every other oil change dump the trans oil it only takes 3 qts of atf to fill super cheap insurance. There’s no trans filter to service. You have to disconnect the battery clear codes. OBD1 sucks. On yours those are diodes burnt up go get new ones and solder them in yourself.

Yes just replace with TCU diode component kit. Shifted well from first gear afterwards.

Hey Dan, I have the flashing S on start up. I already cleaned the solenoids and it worked some months ago but after changing some engine supports and trans hoses it appeared again and even after cleaning the solenoids it just won't go away so the car is in limp mode. The error code reads 7 solenoids. I've looked at my TCU and it. Looked new... Very frustrating..

Hey I’m tryna get back on wheels and found one well maintained with 225k and drives well only thing is the sports mode (I gues the shifter) gets stuck sometimes and it takes a hassle to get it unstuck It’s an automatic nd I don’t know anything about cars but I want to so rn I’m just confused lol

Maybe i can pick your brain i’ve got this car and when i bought it it had an idle issue where to shook the car. now the problem has escalated to if it isn’t a live 1000rmp it will just stall. this is an automatic car. i thought it was spark plugs but i want to look around before but new ones to see if that is in fact the problem

I had a problem with the TCU in the 90, 91, 92 Honda Accord. My Best advice it to let you know that there seems to be a model that is manufactured in Japan and a model that is manufactured in the US. Always try to the model that is manufactured in Japan. You will be able to tell the difference by simply looking at the Number on the TCU.

Bless you! The D4 light stays on and I have to manually shift from 1rst to get moving. I had my ecu repaired before hand with same problem. I installed the repaired unit and it still shows d4 steady light. I reset ecu and it was good for about a month. Will go to Auto Zone if I cannot repair myself. Solenoids to transmission are good

Did you try to replace the swollen capacitors in the TCU ? Not the ECU.

I'm still pretty ignorant about vehicles, but according (pun intended) to my 91 Honda Accord car manual the flashing "S" light is merely a way to let you know that some part of the transmission system is bad. So if I understood correctly, it's similar to the check engine light feature. It let's you know something in the engine is wrong, but the light doesn't necessarily indicate that one specific part is bad, you have to figure out what part of the engine is wrong. Just an fyi for anyone who might see this video and look at the comments.

Try attaching your eBay TCU unit to original ground before testing the shifting.

AutoZone is charging a ridiculous amount for the ECU $513 for the EX. Does anyone know a different manufacturer?

None that I found of, try rock auto. They were the other option, I think they had similar price. I went with auto zone for being local and easy to return If there was any issues

Do your research. Be sure to get one manufactered in Japan rather than USA. The USA is always no good. Look at the numbers. Japan will have sane numbers and USA will have same numbers
