This was my freshman year at GT. Lethal Weapon 3 in basketball and a national championship in football. My brother got us tickets to the Citrus Bowl and I was absolutely sure we had won the championship as we left that game. I got home that night and watched the Orange Bowl, and when Rocket Ismail ran that punt back I celebrated Notre Dame's victory for the first time in my life, only to see it called back for a phantom clipping penalty. Colorado ends up winning a terrible game and the AP gives them a share of the national championship with a loss and the Fifth Down Game vs. Missouri over an undefeated GT team. What a time.

Holy smokes! I watched this game on TV but didn't remember that run. Outstanding. I counted 6 defensive players who got a hand on him.

What's his name? As Irish fans, my dad and I were pulling for Nebraska to knock Tech out of the title picture.

Any Nebraska people familiar with the Minnich Telescope? My great-grandfather Charles Minnich (1915-2007, NU class of 1937) donated it to the school. He retired to Orlando and I was born and raised in Orlando. Even though I was only 9 months old at the time of this game, I feel a connection to it. Driven by this stadium hundreds of times, heard stories of Nebraska football from my great-grandfather. How fortunate for him to have lived such a long life so I could meet him and share times with him. Thanks for posting it, it’s surreal to watch it and imagine him watching it live when it happened.

Thanks for the upload! This was painful to watch live. The only highlight was the emergence of Derek Brown. GBR!

This game cause Coach Osborne to change many of this practices in regards to recruiting, etc. Nebraska had the more talented team and was still blown out. As a result of this game, better cover corners were recruited, faster linebackers were recruited and the defense would shift to a 4-3 full time in the next couple of years. This ultimately culminated in National Titles in 1994, 1995 & 1997. Nebraska was the National Runner Up in 1993. Without this game, this blowout, there would not be the Nebraska dynasty of the 1990's. This game caused Coach Osborne and Coach McBride to change.

Notre Dame was the runner-up in 1993. #2 in the AP and Coach's polls. (And in my book the Irish get robbed.) Nebraska would have been champions if they'd beaten Florida State in the Orange Bowl. But they finished 3rd in both polls.

So previously, they were okay with slower linebackers and suspect corners? Stop it. The best and fastest players are what programs have always been after.
@charlesshankle31786 ай бұрын
@@Roman-tw5xw what I am saying is he had to go with defenders that were not run stoppers first. Remember, the Big 8 was a run first conference at that time.

Georgia Tech should have been the undisputed champs. Colorado had: 1. A tie against Tennessee 2. A loss to Illinois 3. The "5th down" debacle against Missouri... and I don't know that the ball even broke the plane on that last play 4. A really lousy clipping penalty against Notre Dame during the Rocket's punt return. I watched this Citrus Bowl in a hotel in Miami with my dad (we went to that Orange Bowl that night). As Notre Dame fans, we were cheering for Nebraska because we need Tech to lose if we wanted a shot at the title that night. (Nothing personal.)

Beginning of Husker dominance in the 90’s .1992 Coach Osborne beat out coach Lou Holtz and Notre Dame for sensational high school recruit Tommy Frazier the rest would be Husker lore.
