1991 Yamaha SR250 - STARTER BIKE? LOOK NO FURTHER! Ride & Review.

Yamaha designed a first-class 250 cm3 single trailster and without hesitation, re-employed the engine and frame in a roadster at the same time. An added advantage is the fact that the lais-back styling increased the appeal of the machine to non-bikers. Economics also played a major role in the design and considering all factors, the machine is very attractively priced and quite cheap to run. The performance of the bike feels substantially better than it looks on paper & noise level was also taken care of. A very impressive note though is the excellent fuel consumption.

A friend just bought a 1980 or 81 sr250, amazing to work on and drive, I'm heavier (270lbs) and works fine for me. In Alberta it's the perfect commuter. On the highway it's not the best but my 83 Suzuki gn250 with a smaller sprocket works perfect. Great video, thanks.

They are in deed common in Spain. I bought one 3 years ago as my first bike, transformed it into a scrambler/cafe racer. It sure is a good bike but gets small pretty soon

As a learner in Ireland you're not allowed past 100 Km/hr as you're not allowed on the motorways. Plenty of 100 Km/hr roads in Ireland, the new National Limit will be 80 Km/hr in 2024 so a 250 will be fast enough. Anyone who wants to ride fast can still go on the Motorways, with a full license, @ 120 Km/limit although the Greens want this reduced too. The limits are being reduced for "safety" with the added benefit of reducing Ireland's disastrous effects of climate change lol. The majority of Irelands road network is notoriously dangerous with blind bends absolutely everywhere on all roads with massive green walls called hedges causing complete blindness. So 100 Km/hr is a bit fast for the quality of much of our road network anyway.

@@o00scorpion00o its not just lack of speed. I don't mind that as a Jawa 350 rider but SR250 also feels really weedy and gutless. More to the point, nationwide 50 limit? Aaaghh! AND forced to use kilometres. Sounds shit, no offence. And you have the English version in capital letters like its more important. If was Irish I'd blow up the parliament every WEEK til they change that total bx. IN Wales foreign words like Snowdon are being erased from history.

@@tombartram7384 Yeah for some reason they had to convert Ireland to Kms and Km/hr, imagine the cost of replacing all the road signs ? I was used to miles and imp mpg , if it's not broke, why fix it ? idiots! No can't say boo to the Government or protest about anything because the media will constantly call them extreme right wing. 50 limit, yeah, is 100 Km/hr now or 62 and on our crap roads it's actually too fast in many areas, the 50 is coming down to 40 and the 50 down to 20 Mph. The 50 limits are way too high for back roads where you have to stop and climb into the ditch to allow people pass but there are other better roads where 50 is too fast. Back in the 80/90s when I was a child the limit was 100 everywhere except in town but people drove much slower, weren't as mentally deranged and angry as they are today and as a result drive in a manner that means we all will have to suffer as a result as more and more restrictions are implemented. Cars were slow too, no torque and what, maybe 30-40 Hp ? cars were just tin cans and you really felt you were driving much faster than you are, today the cars are so refined you hardly feel 50 mph as moving and this is another part of the problem + cars have so much power now that the slightest tip of the throttle and the car wants to fly down the road.

very good bike as long as the weather is not too cold. I could do perfect on the highway with mine just had to be carefull not to go over the speedlimit on the highway. it can go over 125km/h

This bike is more aimed at New riders I suppose and they're not allowed on the Motorway, Highway ? with a 120 Km/hr limit, so the rest of the road network is 100 Km/hr or less and much of that is being reduced in 2024, the 100 Km/hr limit is coming down to 80 which is around 50 Mph, the 80 Km/hr limit down to 60 and the 50 Km'hr down to 40 so a 250 CC bike in Ireland will be plenty fast for many. The road network here is extremely dangerous anyway with blind corners absolutely everywhere and hardly a straight road to be seen anywhere and blind junctions, bends and plenty of blind entrances. So motorcyclists really ought to be going much slower than they are.
