AC would be tough with space but anything can be done. Yes oil pan clearance was an issue even with modified pan, it rubbed a little, I would do cross over steering and straight axle if it was mine.

I did this for a customer in one week. They took it to Olympia and sold shortly after. Fuel mileage was similar to 22re at the time

The cost of the swap depends on how much you get the motor for, The motor, conversion pieces, exhaust, fans, machining and total labor was around $4000

The fuel pump was on engine, fuel lines from old gas engine were cleared out and connected to injection pump.

I see you had a California engine. The rest of the U.S. engines have the good intake and turbo, that was probably an extra expense.

Yes, I had three engines. One manifold held the turbo higher than the other if I remember right

Yes AC could be added. Although you will run into oil pan clearance problems with IFS, even with modified pan.

Did you have any issues with oil pan clearance on steering linkage? I have the same kit and it hits the oil pan when I turn.

Yes, I experienced the same issue. Even if you modified the pan more you would run into the pickup tube. Straight axle and hi steer would probably work best.

Dieselbuggys Use the factory Toyota solenoid on top of the valve cover. Hook up to ignition power and plug into back of diesel pump, super easy

The OM617 weighs about 600-650 lbs, It runs well at highway speeds. This project took me 9 days approx. 50 hours while working full time during 5 of the days. This Toyota made a 300 mile drive the same day it was pulled out of the shop. We only drove it 20 miles and made a couple adjustments before the customer hit the highway with no issues.

Larry Hughes no. Youll need a r150f manual. Even then youll need a convertion plate made from 4x4 labs.

Hi Joey, I used a new Toyota 22RET, (22RE) Turbo Flywheel. Had more surface area for clutch. Drilled to match OM617 bolt pattern. I didn't balance it, probably be a little smoother if I had.

yes i was concerned about that because MB balanced the harmonic balancer, crank shaft, and fly wheel to gather. I put a 4sd standard in my 1984 300TD wagon and what i did was i found a european1982 300D MB that had a rod out the block and took a part another one of my motors and neutrally balanced every thing which making having to replace the fly wheel and the harmonic balancer a lot easier. but i have put a 220D motor in a 1993 Toyota tacoma which had a MB 4sd on it and i put it all in there that also worked the grill was smashed so we put a MB grill on it and a MB bumper under it. it looks really cool. but the reason i asked the question i have a friend that wants to do the conversion to his toyota so him knowing me and my dad have a lot of experience with fabrication with vehicles and plenty of 300d MB around the shop he came to us and i was looking what had people have done thats when i ran into your video thanks for responding to my question hopefully if i have any more you can answer them i know this is a long comment sorry just wanted to tell you a little of what i have experienced doing this kind of stuff.

I think if a person marked the MB flywheel before removing and took the Toyota and MB flywheel to a shop the Toyota flywheel could be matched to the MB flywheel to get the same result so you didn't have so much work?

From my experience from doing other ones (by replacing fly wheels on MB) if you don't the rear main seal dose not last long once we redid it they last a long time and the motor dose run a lot smoother it helps with not losing so much oil too. I drive my MB 1500 miles in two days for my job and after i neutrally balanced everything it helped out a lot. Also i do have a good supply of anything i might need for the 616 motor, so i am doing some more work to minimize work for later.

Mercedes flywheel is neutral balance as long as the new flywheel is neutral balanced your good to go

The swap cost depends on how much you can get a used OM617 for, expect around $800-1200 for engine with 200,000 miles or more. Kit or parts run $800-2000 depending on your configuration.
