I’m looking back at Jennifer Capriati’s career. She was an amazing 4-0 in big finals. 1992 Olympic Gold Medal, defeating Steffi Graf in final. 2001 Australian Open (winning in her first grand slam final and beating the #1 player Hingis at the time) 2001 French Open 2002 Australian Open (Beating #1 Hingis again!). When she made those big finals she won ! Incredibly clutch in those finals.

Yeah unfortunately she turned out to be a mess in her personal life dont know those wins were worth it all for her.

Once Seles withdrew, everyone expected Graf to win (even Evert, Capriati's family friend, picked Steffi). It's nice to see Capriati score her only win over Steffi here... totally unexpected!

Seles didn't withdraw, she was banned from the Olympics for not playing Fed Cup. Navratilova and Sabatini were also banned from the 1992 Olympics for skipping Fed Cup.

@@TheSportslover2010 It was a stupid move since she should play FED for country that did not exist anymore Yugoslavia was banned from olympics due to UN sanctions. Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and herzegovina did sent their teams to Barcelona. And I just wonder what kind of competition it is if you leave out 3 out of top 5 players at the time. As i recall Slovenia even made an offer to play for Slovenia.

I'm so proud of her there are very few tennis players that can say they have gold medals.

It's one thing to be a grand slam champion but it's an entirely different matter to be a gold medalist at the Olympics. I actually think it's a higher honor because you only get the chance every 4 years.

It's not necessary that Steffi Graf wins all possible titles. She's not a "machine" but a sympathic sportwoman. Capriati was the better player this day!

I remember Steffi Graf had the most wicked forehand in tennis... and then that tiny slice backhand. She was pratically unbeatable during her reign.This was a great match. Cap proved she wasn't a flash in the pan or a burned out teen phenom.

Glad that Tracy Austin was commentating for the Gold Medal match instead of Chris Evert. Chris is a wonderful person and was a phenomenal tennis player...but not a great commentator.

I appreciate this, I am a Capriati fan, I loved Steffi too! I miss all of these girls... I do think if we could change time, and Jennifer started a little later in her career, I think she would of stuck around, and by retirement she would have more than three grand slams. I think as she got older, Graff, Seles, Sabatini, Jennifer it would of been up in the air on every slam. I think a lot of tennis fans hold Jen's rebellion against her, she just wanted to be a kid, adults wanted her to be an adult.. in all fairness, no one wants their childhood, teenage years robbed. Quick note until your 18 in most states at least you can't make decisions for yourself, it was hard on her🎾🔥❤️

capriati is one of the best counterpuncher out there. she just didn't work hard enough and took advantage of her gift. but she got her act together and won her 3 grand slams at the later stage of her career. by 28 years all done, and gone.

Jennifer only beat Graf one time, but oh, what a time to do it. That one win is worth more than the 10 losses put together because it gave her the gold medal and denied Graf a history making second gold medal. The Graf era was completely over at this point until a knife put her back in the game.
@carrerau7138 Жыл бұрын
“At that point“ Steffi had won 3 of 4 matches against the fake #1, Monica Seles. 64 63 and 61 62 routs among them. Seles‘s only win was a 10-8 in the third. 😂 So Steffi completely OWNED Seles “at this point“. Are you not ashamed to post such drivel in a public forum? Apparently people like you are ashamed of nothing!

What a patchy match from Steffi. Too bad errors on her forehand by her high standards. Jennifer had a few lucky shots that skidded off the service line.
