Neil ‘man of the people’ Kinnock who happily left the working class behind while both he and his wife landed cushy jobs in Europe, and is so down to earth his son is married to a former Prime Minister.

I was only 7 in 1992 and interesting to see that the SNP, 30 years ago, as today still spout the same old crap and still play victim but also still take the money "south of Birmingham".

I know that the fringe/independent candidates realize that there's no chance that they will win, but having to stand next to Lord Buckethead on the stage has to be the second-most embarrassing part of the night (right after getting fewer votes than Lord Buckethead).

@@marcokite A polite response would be that it's easier to enjoy it when you win. A less polite response would be, of course Johnson enjoyed it--Lord Buckethead makes him look dignified by comparison.

In fairness to Lord Buckethead, he appears statesmanlike and dependable by comparison with most politicians today.

They should have had Neil Kinnock on in defeat and kept playing the "We're alright" clip over and over and asking him questions about it.

It did not contribute to defeat no matter the myth. Labour's loss thirty years ago today was a tragedy and one of the saddest days of my life to this day. I was 22 and hoped for change. I still believe it was a missed opportunity for a different kind of society. The issues of 1992 remain unresolved today and we find ourselves in the dytopia of grotesque inequality and outcomes for millions that Kinnock warned against while Labour leader. I think he moved the party too far to the right but he would have been a good Prime Minister. He failed with tragic consequences but faced defeat with dignity both at the constituency count and on the steps of Walworth Road in the early hours of the morning.

@@eightiesmusic1984 No worries, that society would have been trash, and the common man would have a lower standard of living today than he currently does. Leftwing, statist, economic policies are horrible, and only make things more equal in that they lower everyone down to a poorer shared existence. So it's better that things panned out this way. Though there's much room for improvement.

@@JK-br1mu Sub Daily Mail nonsense. Given how ill considered your comment is it is unlikely you are aware that John Smith's shadow budget would have made the average family better off, refuting the lies of the Conservatives about tax. Does your thesis have any evidence you would like to provide?

Interesting that 30 years on, I wouldn't of voted Tory or Labour. Kinnock, no chance, and as a Tory voter, if I could vote for the new leader in 2022, I wouldn't vote either Truss or Sunack. You couldn't pay me to vote Labour with Starmer who represents the working man with Sir at the start of his name. It really is a mixed-up, shook-up world. Was Heseltine never not a creep?

An utterly disastrous night for the British people but a victory for the British ruling establishment and the night New Labour was truly born.., the Tories only fell on a good economic policy following the ERM exit months later, they record between 1989-1992 on many issues was frankly terrible..Kinnock was woeful...but the Tory victory locked in the NHS internal market changes introduced in 1991, ruled out any possibility of an investment based approach to tackle the huge economic and social issues facing the nation...you get the governments you vote for...Major had some achievements to be honest but that comprehensive programme the nation needed was gone...
